Do you know what would be nice? For everybody not to go ape s--- everytime some pundit from ESPN or SI dumps or trumps the fins. Too many people put too much stock on what a few talking heads think. Hey: Who Gives A F--! I'm not saying to dismiss all media or what it can offer, but what you have to realize is that not many of these guys are any more knowlegable on the game than the die-hard fan. They are no more capable of being more right or more wrong than the chump who watches every game every week. Some (but not all) just know how to put what they know into words. That's all. There's no special badge that should merit fans hanging off every word, positive or negative. Half of them are homers, the other half are mini-celebs as far removed from reality as the athletes they cover.
Do you really think Peter "Go Bledsoe" King knows anything about how talented, say, Randy McMike is? No way. Many are so close to their subjects (especially the columnists and pundits) that they have lost all objectivity or context-- (please see Lebartard). Also, while you and I spend Sunday watching 4 or 5 games a week, they watch bits of the home team, and spend the rest of the day writing. Whatever they get from the rest of the NFL is highlights from Prime Time. I used to be a newspaper journalist, and while I only dabbled in sports as a student, I did work at a big daily, and spent much of my time hanging around the sports Dept. I was simply amazed at how narrow a view supposed experts can have of their own "industry." I could go on, but I want to keep the snoring happy faces that will surely follow down to a minimum. Anyway, all I'm saying is chill with the amount of attention you give Lebartard, marvez, Jaws, whoever. They're just opinions, no more or less on the mark than what most people hear can post without a 15,000 J-school education.:sleep::sleep:
