Junior Seau over Donnie Spragan??

Seau is still good, he hasn't shown many signs of age other than his battling little injuries and losing playing time to them where earlier in his career he didn't suffer those things.

BTW I don't believe Crowder has wrestled a starting job, I believe we're seeing the beginnings of Saban's defensive tinkering which we will pretty much see EVERY WEEK from here on out. For this game, Saban feels it is most appropriate to get Crowder in the interior and Seau out on the edges where he can be even more aggressive. This may be due to Jake Plummer's nature as a scrambling QB, or because we need some extra beef to stop the run against the Broncos' cut-blocking running attack. Whatever it is, we've managed to catch a glimpse somehow of what Saban is planning against the Broncos next week, but I fully expect Seau to be moved back inside in the base D, when it is more appropriate.

so it's the wrong decision imo. By the way, I'm pretty sure you're in my one fantasy football league. It's just about game time man. We haven't had much activity on the league, but hopefully that will change this week.

I hope that's the case, and that Seau isn't going to be out there all year. Hopefully he'll get a few snaps, but I'd like to see Spragan and even Moore play most of the time, so we can improve our team now, and more importantly, in the long run.

I don't know about you guys, but I think Junior is done. I remember watching him the past 2 years and I never thought that he was any good. I always see him doing that gay "fake blitz", but he's really supposed to blitz and the QB is 5 yards in the backfield before he even hits the first lineman. He's a great emotional leader, no doubt, but he simply can't make the plays that he used to. We should be giving Donnie Spragan the nod over him, and begin the youth movement, because we all know this is Junior's last year with the Fins, and he'd be better suited in a teaching role than a playing role.

Thoughts??

57 tackles in 8 games last year; 96 the year before in 16 games. His play has been significant since being here. Last year if he stayed healthy he would have had around 100 tackles. If you judge by last year then I don't see how you can say he's done. Spragan had half the tackles in twice the number of games last year. JR is still the man. Spragan can only hope to be nearly as good.

Again, we should resist evaluating this as a "decision" as much as we look at it as a defensive "look" that we plan on giving the Broncos some of the time. It's a new look, so it will require the most practice to get it to work, but that does not even mean we plan on doing this MOST of the time against the Broncos.

It's not like Donnie Spragan is going to be on the inactive list or anything. He may play more at the position than Seau does. Besides, the Broncos are Spragan's old team, so Saban may feel that there's a risk that the Broncos know his tendencies.

We have to get use to this as fans. Previously, a starter was a starter, and he came out only when tired or hurt or if we needed some kind of defensive line package on an obvious passing down. The Nickel CB was the Nickel CB and when we went to nickel, he was in. The passrushing DL was the passrushing DL and they went in on obvious passing downs. Now, we have a whole lot more "packages" to present to teams.

One of the big reasons Bill Belichick has had the success that he has is the ability to creat confusion. I think Saban is the same way. I agree, you will see many different people lineing up in different spots this year. I love it.
