So the DirecTV guy is coming to put in a dish and Sunday Ticket on Wednesday which means I won't have to miss a game all season (I go to school up at FSU which is Jags and Falcons territory). And I've been reading football news all week and got the itch to talk some football. So in that interest, here's a couple of points I wanted some opinions on.

1.) I know it was mentioned in Phil Unwin's new column, but I think Will Poole will be a phenomenal corner and I think the biggest advantage he's going to have is the chip on his shoulder. If you remember when we drafted Poole, he had at one point been projected as one of the top corners in the draft, however (much like with Derek Hagan this year) his combine numbers, namely his 40, weren't up to snuff. Granted Poole is coming off a knee injury, and I don't ever expect a player to be back to 100% until a full two years after their injury (see Edgerrin James) but I still think Poole will at some point be one of the starting corners this season and I expect him to excel there.

2.) The quarterback situation finally looks good, but I do have a couple of reservations before I go ahead and say it's solved. First of all, I wonder if we're better off with Harrington as our number two than we would've been with Frerrote. Before you jump on me and say that he left so he could start, I wonder if Miami hadn't been so quick to say that he wouldn't be our QB next year and cast him off if he'd have signed with St. Louis. The general vibe I got was that Miami didn't want him back, this came from the news stories that poured out after the season. Maybe it's a moot point, but Frerrote is the prototypical back-up, Harrington, however much potential he has, is yet to gain my trust.

Now that's not to say he won't, I personally love the prospect of Joey Harrington, but Frerrote knows the offense and is a heck of a lot less mind-****ed.

3.) Wouldn't it be somewhat ironic of Cleo Lemon winds up at any point, our best QB. Then we'd all be left with a rather dopey, "well-waddya-know?" look on our faces. Not saying it's likely, but I'd get a kick out of it.

4.) I for one would like to see Randy McMichael finally step up and have a complete season instead of proving he's got the talent and then taking off the last 8 games as per usual.

5.) I saw a story about OJ McDuffie recently, does anyone else miss him? I love Chris Chambers and his big play ability, but I miss having someone as sure-handed and constantly open as McDuffie. There have been others with better hands (Oronde Gadsen, possibly Chambers) but that tended to be more in regards to the spectacular. McDuffie's good hands meant he didn't drop balls he should've caught. In my mind, he's gotta be one of the most underrated Dolphins of all time.

And finally, three years ago, the cornerback combination of Ty Law and Patrick Surtain frankly would've made QB's crap their pants. Now it's a bit less intimidating, but I still think KC will have a pretty good time defending the pass.

Pick a point and talk. Football's back!

I believe at least one of them is a nationally televised pre-season game. As for the rest of 'em, good luck. I know they won't be on up here in Tallahassee unless I'm watching little snippets on NFL network. I don't know how it is elsewhere.

All dolphins preseason games will be reaired via tape delay on nfl network. usually when the game is on like a fri or sat night they reair it sometime the following sunday.

Miami @ Carolina August 24th is nationally televised on Fox @ 8pm. This is the only Dolphin game that is, all others are on NFL Network.

As for the Harrington/Frerotte point you raised, you have to know Saban always thinks in terms of the future and big picture. Frerotte was going to take us nowhere if he had to start for a number of games, which was (and is) a real possibility given the Culpepper injury. At the time we acquired Harrington, Culpepper was a bigger question mark than he is now So when Saban got Joey, he was thinking potential starter, not backup.

I know this has been predicted before, but I believe this is the year Randy finally becomes a complete and elite TE. Especially if Culpepper is healthy and playing for the entire season. I think our O-Line will do a better job of protecting the QB so that Randy can be more involved in the plays rather than blocking. I think he will have over 900 yards and 9 touchdowns.

tv

ddtdon is correct- wfor is the local channel for all but carolina. also be aware that most of the last games of the regular season are subject to time changes. they may do this if the fins are hot. be aware.:dolphins:

Nice read...you brought up some interesting points.

When did the panhandle become Jags territory? That's a shame, I used to see all the fins games on local tv in panama city. Even for a few years after Jax got their team. Then I left for the Army so I've mostly been out of luck.

Harrington was a fall back option for Saban when his attempted signing of Frerotte failed.
