If you go up 5 paragraphs from the bottom of this next link you will find a little more on Thomas. http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/news/top_story.asp?contentID=6006 I can't beleive he took the job in only 3 days and never let up. I wish jake was getting the same praise as Thomas is as a rookie. I know it's early and Jakes problems are mental and are fixable but our 6th rounder is the one being talked about developing into an all-pro this early.

Thanks for the post, its always good to hear that people talking good about lower round drafted rookies.

well I always said we should have drafted a wr or mcfadden we could have traded Ronnie . a lot of people thought we should have drafted a play maker in rd and draft a ot in rd 2 or rd3 but i am very well pleased with the direction of this team. I just wished that we could hae traded for a bigtime wr .

Thanks for the news. As a Connecticut resident and a UConn fan it's great to hear that he is doing so well and is gaining respect in the NFL community so quickly. My hope of course, is that he performs as well when the whistle blows for real. It will speak well of the UConn program and it will mean so much for our beloved Fins.

Nice post.. thanks for the links. I believe Jake isn't getting the same talk because being drafted #1 overall.. it's expected of him to play well. But Thomas being a 6th rd choice, which are usually cr@p shoots anyway.. he's far exceeding expectations. A steal they would say!

Your welcome fellow fans. I have nothing to do today but catch up on recent Dolphin news and will be digging all day.

I think you may be jumping the gun here... Thomas was a late round draft pick with very low expectations coming in... Jake is the number 'one' overall! A COMPLETELY different set of circumstances which might cause some to look at Jake as struggling. ( an opinion with which I DO NOT agree )

Thomas also plays guard, a position that is much easier to 'step into' and lets face it, teaming with Vernon Carey on the right side is not going to hurt you.

I love that it seems we may have 'hit' on a low rounder who can make the jump into the league but lets get some real games under our belts before we begin to pat eachother on the back... I would love nothing more than if he continues his progression...

Not trying to hate on Jake. Just saying it would be nice if his reviews and playing was getting positive attention like that. Ireland and BP don't give undeserved praise or hand starting jobs to people early without merit. Jake will be fine IMO but I found it unuasual that he is not th erookie lineman getting all the attention. Thats all.

Sorry about that... when I read my post after, I realized it sounded a little more negative than I intended...

In actual fact I think Thomas has been the quiet 'surprise' in camp with Langford and Merling gettting the lion's share of attention Thomas' lack of it simply translates into the fact that he is 'getting it done' and in his case not being noticed is a plus.

I'm very pleased at his development so far and to be honest the fact that he has only been playing football a few years now hints at ALOT of potential down the road.

I just want to see how he does when the games mean something and opposing DC's begin to scheme ways of attacking him... This is the youngest OL unit in the League, if they can build on some real chemistry established in the preseason then the sky is the limit!

Parcells keeps calling him a "god send"

I've said it before but one of the biggest reasons he is a god send is not just because he's good enough to start...but rather how incredibly quickly he showed that he was good enough to start.

It is easily as big a boost to this line that he was able to claim the starting job three days into camp, as it is having found that fifth and final starter. If we'd found the fifth and final starter, let's say, just last week...even if he was as good as Donald Thomas currently is...the line overall would not be as good as they are right now because we'd have had to shuffle everyone around while we search for that starter. As things stand, these five guys have worked together since the third day of camp, almost as if the line had been together for years and you knew before you even started who would be starting. That's huge.

It's hard to temper the excitement when you look at the age of these guys and the possibilities... I can't blame people for getting excited because if they do indeed pan out, barring injuries and cap situations you could look at a group that is together for 5-10 years... That is called LAYING THE FOUNDATION. :hi5:

Man you guys have me amped for Sunday!!!!! Donald Thomas has been a great find. Long has gotten very good reviews all around, even from some folks that initially had him going to the right side. WOW our line isn't the hodge podge of mix and match that it was last year and i for one am STOKED!!! GO PHINSSSSS!!!!

Thats alright. I always seem to be a little more expectfull of Jake and probably shouldn't have mentioned him. I meant to post the positives on Donald not to question Jake. I hope Jake is getting all the praise this season because as you mention he is in the more important position for passing downs. I hope both are perrenial pro-bowlers and hope Donald continues the path he is on. I noticed in alot of the preseason games people was going for Donalds face mask (which is ilegal) and even had his helmet removed a couple times because the 1st teamers he was going against was getting frustrated.

My fingers are crossed, I hope he sticks.
