With J.Allen moving to corner back , it might not be a bad idea to try T. Daniels at safety? I think he would be a good fit there. Him Y.Bell would look pretty good to me.

I don't know. I think we've had enough experiments in our secondary lately. So I'm not seeing this - but I'm not saying it could't be a good fit for him.

Where do you like to have more speed in your secondary? CB or S? I prefer speed at the CB. Daniels is not the speediest guy - so maybe S would be a good fit.

I don't know - just thinking that more shuffeling won't help the chemistry in our secondary.

It may not be, but that has been the MO of this team since Madison/Surtain left. The bottom line is that some of us think that Daniels was actually drafted to be a safety in Saban's secondary...That was arguably Daniels' best seasons at LSU. Due to his versatility and knowledge of what Saban wanted done in the secondary and the injuries suffered by CBs we had at the time, he was put in at CB and played well his first year.

All I would say about moving Daniels would be IF J. Allen plays the way we think he can at CB (ironically, his best position in college, although he played both), with Will Allen manning the other side and Goodman and Mitchell coming back...we'd have a pretty good group at CB. After Hill and Bell we are weaker at S. Also, having Daniels in the rotation, he can sub in for any of the four positions...

I'm with you on the not wanting to make a lot of moves as the secondary has been suspect here. The thing is this...is our group of DBs not that good and has this D scheme been covering up for that or is this group better than what they've shown due to having some of the guys out of place...

Travis Daniels was originally recruited to LSU as a wide receiver, but he was moved to safety and eventually found a home at cornerback. He's big for a cornerback, but not especially fast. However, he proved me wrong in his first year and did a great job. He is a smart player who can cover and tackle well and is not afraid to attack running backs coming out of the backfield. I think in this he would do well as a Safety. The thing that worries me about him is that he does not backpedal or turn and run well and will need to work on his technique if he wants to excel as a CB. He is more suited to zone coverage than man-to-man coverage. The move would not be bad, but I think that he will remain as CB and will do well there as long as he remains healthy.

wouldnt work.. thses guys, while crazy atheltic...cannot simply switch positions at their or the coaching staffs leisure... i see your point, but i disagree..

Leave this stuff to the coaches to decide.

I'm excited about the athletic ability we'll have at corner back if J. Allen can take the starting job. I think about W. Allen's speed at great run stopping and JA is just as good but with better hands. If JA can take the job convincingly a weekness of ours just turned into a major strength.

We'll have the number one defense this year barring any collapses.

He doesnt have the bulk or muscle to play safety. He gets injured enough as it is now. Imagine how injured he would be at safety

i dont know if he would start but we should try it out that is what alot of old corners do when they begin to slow down it might be a better fit for him

Why? Renaldo Hill and Yeremiah Bell both played well at safety last season, and we have issues with cornerback depth to begin with. This move wouldnt make much sense.

Travis Daniels isnt old - In that sense he is what he is. he is what he is and he isnt bulky enough, doesnt hit or tackle hard enough and is too often injured (as it is playing corner) to play safety

i really don't think that would be a good move because we have R. Hill and Y. Bell out there and both played decent last year. i mean i wouldn't say no to something i thought would work but i hiughly doubt movin TD there is goin to work. with TD and Jason Allen playin corner we have 2 young corners that can develop into top CB. when Pat and Sam came out they weren't the best right off the bat give them some time. I mean even though will allen can't catch a cold he still a decent vet that can help these guys learn.

What's wrong with having very good cornerbacks? Bright young, athletic guys developing at the position they are best at. Hill and Bell get the job done at safety imo. I'm really pulling for Jason Allen to be a bigtime player for us as is befitting his first round draft status. The #16 pick in the draft should yield a very good player at the very least. I'm looking for the guy to really carve out a starting cornerback position, playing at a high level for the next 10 years. If not it becomes yet another poor decision by ex-coach Saban. The same can be said for Danials. Sabans picks in the secondary BETTER come on this season in a big way!
