Just give Joey Porter NFL Defensive MVP already!

James Harrison will win DMVP sadly. That guys only a sack or two behind porter AND he has picks and force fumbles.

But he's also MUCH younger, so Porter can still be quite happy as the runner up.

Harrison did nothing today.....

It could be somebody else. Ware, maybe even John Abraham. Don't forget that Ed Reed guy. It's a great race.

Demarcus Ware is a beast, if he gets two sacks in each of the last two games, he breaks the sack record, if he does that, no doubt Ware gets it.

Hate to say it. But I can easily see Joey lose the sack record to Demarcus Ware. The man is simply a beast of nature! So is Joey but..

I got my feelings for Demarcus this year.. :boohoo:

Am I the only one who sees Porter as being overrated. I like the guy and he has been great for us all year but I would hardly consider him the most dominant player on defense this year.

He had some games at the start of the year where he deserved that title (first game against Buffalo, @Denver, @New England) but as the season went on I wouldn't be surprised if he has worn down just a little. It would only be natural when play after play you are 245lbs going against 300+, or when they run the ball right at you or throw screens to your side to kill your pursuit.

He is still a great pass rusher but he can disappear for long stretches too often, making me question him as a DPOY.

Happens to everybody. Look at Chambers in 2005 . . . that Buffalo game made him a Pro Bowler that season . . . u take that out, he had very average numbers that season.

Look at Usi Umennorya (I know I butchered that lol) last year. . . he made the Pro Bowl . . . the guy had 13 sacks the whole year . . . SIX in one game. U take that game out, and his stats are very average.

Me personally, I think Joey is top 5 right now . . . and it all depends on what the voters consider a DMVP. If its about stats . . . than Joey won't win . . . if its about who does the most for his team on defense combined with stats . . . then Joey deserves it.

He is definitely not a shoe in to win the award, just like Sparano isn't a shoe in for coach of the year. Both are strong candidates tho.

Harrison has been with the steelers since they drafted him in 2002 to replace veteran Jason Gildon since he was up there in age and was in the downside of his career. The age difference between Porter and Harrison are about 1 year. How is he "much" younger?

The guy is an effin animal. He saved the day today. WOW.

How many people were talking about cutting him?

I'm glad this signing as actually worked out. Anyway Ware just made his case for defensive mvp

Man, that was a great sack. Peezy came through when it counted....

He gets my vote for DMVP

See for me I think Porter's sack total is higher than his QB Pressures would yield. In other words, a guy with 17.5 sacks at this point in the season I would expect to be double teamed (backs or otherwise) every play or getting constant pressure on the QB. I just don't think Porter has done that. If stats were not the main factor I would think Haynesworth would have to be considered given what that guy turns Tennessee into.

He has had an amazing season but if there ever was a season for him to win DPOY it would be now. I think this has to be one of the least eye popping performances for the award.

Imagine Taylor with 13.5 sacks, 2 TD, 9 FF, 2 INT in the year he won it.

I think Harrison in PIT, Ware in DAL, and Haynesworth in TEN will all be ahead of Joey when all is said and done. Its a shame, I think Porter reputation in the league will keep him from receiving the votes he deserves for the honor.
