Just how good is Jaylen Wright?

Any projections at this point are just the wildest of guesses. If he's worked on the things that kept him off the field last year then his talent certainly dictates a larger role than '24. Here's a good video from Ryder McConville on why Jaylen is a breakout candidate this year-

and another workout video-

I do not know if this fact in the first video is correct. I don’t go that deep in “scouting” now a days. But if it’s true Wright didn’t play within any zone blocking scheme at Tennessee then it makes me even more excited for him in the future and also makes sense why he didn’t do better than he did on some of the runs he had even okay blocking.

Once he builds the data base of how to move better within the zone blocking could be a monster.

Me neither @Nappy Roots , Ryder knows his stuff (just have to get past the voice), so do Simon Clancy and Dane Brugler among others so I rely on their takes. The 33rd Team offered the following on Wright pre-draft -

  • Good-sized back who lined up exclusively offset in the shotgun and showed explosive downhill running traits.
  • Featured on inside runs in Tennessee’s offense with zone concepts, gap scheme concepts and insert concepts.
  • Inside runs where he showed desired tempo and patience, then short-area burst to work through small creases.
  • Showed enough lateral agility to slide from gap to gap to find the hole. Showed jump cut and stop-and-start.
  • Consistently did a good job using his initial path to press the POA/LOS, then vision and burst to attack the hole.
  • Ran hard inside, showing strong finishing traits. Did not go down easily despite not being naturally powerful.
  • Patience, tempo and vision consistently showed up with innate feel, reading gap fluidity and defensive flow.
  • Slashing, darting feel to his running at the second and third levels of the defense. Made defenders miss in space.
  • Explosive breakaway speed to take it to the house. Dynamic weapon who can score from anywhere on the field.
  • Featured at times as a receiver in Tennessee’s offense. He lined up detached from the formation and caught the ball easily.
  • Deployed on swing passes out of the backfield, where he had space to build up his accelerating explosive speed.

Respectfully disagree with your comparison to Ajay. He ran to contact. Wright sure looks like a beast but he does not run through people. Needs to be more north/south.
Yeah Wright reminds me alot more of Lamar Miller actually...

I maybe in the smaller camp now. But I still think Jaylen Wright is going to be a stud for us. I love his burst and balance. I thought when you looked at his runs last year he was put in a really bad spot majority of the plays he was in on.
I am with you in respect to Jaylen Wright! All he needs is more touches and I believe he will be a Force Multiplier for this offense because he will allow Hill and Waddle to see more single coverage if he is popping off 5yd-25 yd runs. He is a physical back with "Take it to the House" speed! If our OL is significantly improved with our two new Guards, then this has a distinct possibility of happening.

He looked good in what we got to see.
