For all of you saying we didn't run the ball enough and we need to run it more vs. the Cards, why do I have a feeling you would be the same ones complaining if they just kept running into a brick wall and faced 3rd and longs all game and still ran or had our QB face differicult situations on 3rd down and long. Remember Wanny Ball...... Run, Run, on 1st and 2nd down even if it was stuffed every play then throw on 3rd and long, Everyone hated it. My point is if the opposing team is constantly stacking the box and stuffing your run game to where you're averaging under 3 yards per carry(Ricky) then you Have to try something else. Do you completely abandon the run game? NO but it certaintly might call for more pass than run plays.

yes you might call more passes then runs, but 3 times the amount?

1st and goal on the 10, including getting it to the 2 yard line and we run 0 times.....thats not good football. specially when we were not pass blocking very well. pull a draw something, whatever, just run.

yeah, the Chiefs did the same thing yesterday. Only, they kept running the ball and didn't make adjustments when it wasn't working that well. granted, it was against the Pats, but still.

The cards had a great run defense last year, but this pre-season, our first string ran easily on their first string. i think you guys should put up decent run numbers against them, but you should be able to pass as well.

I think just the opposite. I think we need to come out VS the cards and go with our first 5 plays being passing only. Everyone knows that we don't have any WRs and we a decent running game. so, they are going to stack the box. let 'em do so and pass all day.

Look at the jets game. first quarter we commited to the run and we had a ton of 3 and outs. then later in the game, we commited to the pass and we came back with 14 points and almost won the game.

pass, pass, pass. let 'em play off the line a little bit, then we run in down their throats.

I'm sorry...when you have Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams as your running backs...and your on 2 yard line with two downs to go...and you don't run....your NUTS!

I don't care if you have clowns playing on the line...those runners should be able to get two lousy yards. There's nothing wrong with running the football...it was what made many superbowl teams...super. Running against a defense gets them tired...wears them out....brings up the secondary...and IF done well enough...gives your defense a chance to rest.

right it was the runs fault for those 3 and outs. Penny going 1-7 with negative 1 yard didnt contribute to it at all.

btw, those "TON" of 3 and outs, were 2 in the first. the first 3 and out we ran the ball twice then threw on 3rd for a 3 and out. 2nd time we threw the ball twice outta the 3 and still went 3 and out. next drive, we run 2 straight times for 6 yards. then 7 yards. then promptly threw the ball 3 straight times to end the drive with a punt.

next possession we ran the ball 5 times total which opened everything up and we scored a TD to tie it...

later in the game we threw it very nicely, but we only came away with 7 points and we shoulda came away with 14 had we ran in at the end of the drive we were stopped on 4th down at the 2.

Um, we played the cards? Was this a scrimmage?

if you didn't notice, I was talking about the Chiefs... ya know, pre-season game 2? against the Bears,(pre-season game 1) the Chiefs tried to pass the ball, and did it. against the Cards(pre-season game 2), who had #9 rush defense last year, they tried to run, and did it. no worries, i'll spell things out in the future.

You need to run the ball early in the game. It has amazing benefit for a weak team. Poor teams that run 27+ times have considerable boost in their expected win percentage. We went over this a few years ago and watched it unfold successfully when Miami actually emphasized the run early in the game.

Excellent passing teams can afford the opposite route, pass early then rack up rushing attempts in the second half. But when a lousy team hasn't worn down the defense all game via drive blocking, and suddenly tries to run with a backdrop of only 15-odd rushes for the game, those rushes will generally be stuffed.

As always, the key is attempts, not yards. Run the ball often, pass the ball well. Miami's statistical blueprint last week screamed loss from the outset. When you rush 17 times and allow 31, gain 5.3 YPPA and allow 8.2, that's a rightful blowout. It would have been an undeserved fluke if we had pulled it out.

You need to do the right thing and it's remarkable how the benefits will flow.

Our secondary is going to be chalanged(understatement of the week), so our best bet will be to run early and often, as long as we are even a little bit effective, we need to controll the clock and not let those all pro recievers see the field. If the game turns into a shootout, I think we have the firepower to hang with them, but we should avoid that situation if at all possible. We need to play our game, and yes, we are good enough to play our game. If we fall behind early, I think they will go for the throat time and time again.

Im all for coming out on Sunday and actually throwing on first down. Put Camarillo and London as wideouts, move Ginn into the slot, just to loosen things up abit.

Now I don't mean pass on every first down, but teams know we're going to rely on the run so they can cheat a little bit. Why not make them start thinking right from the start?

Exactly Nappy Roots, if Penny completes those easy passes in the first few drives it would of changed the whole complexity of the game...

We need to dictate what we want to do with the ball and not have to adjust to what the other team is doing. We want them to adjust to what we are doing.
If we don't establish a running game we will lose the game.

I think the game plan should be run first. However it's hard to commit to that if our defense gives up big plays early in the game.

It's difficult to stick to the run game when coming from behind.

Your running game will come together. You guys are overlooking the fact that Kris Jenkins and the Jets run defense played outstanding.KJ was a bulldozer Sunday and hopefully will continue to be.I am confident that your R&R will come alive in the near future.I think you just came up against a very improved Jets run D.
