Just saw the BYU vs Utah game from last year. Lets just say I have goosebumps:
375 yards and 4 tds
He led the team to a winning td with 1:09 on the clock from his own 25 yd line. He threw a td with no time left on the clock.

I have no problem thinking only positives about Beck, but Utah (or most the teams Beck faced) are not even div 1 quality defensive teams much less NFL quality defensive teams. Maybe good to watch but don't take much out of it.
Well, yes... but you can't discount it either. LaDainian Tomlinson was from the same Conference. Beck led the team to 10 straight victories, and then a spanking of Pac 10 Oregon Ducks in a bowl game whilst passing for 375 yards. BYU scored 38 points against the Oregon D', while USC only scored 35 against them. You can't discard his success simply because he comes from BYU... the same school as Steve Young and Jim McMahon.I have no problem thinking only positives about Beck, but Utah (or most the teams Beck faced) are not even div 1 quality defensive teams much less NFL quality defensive teams. If you are going to use the small school competition then you must also use small school teammates. How would his talents have fared with USC's offense? How would he have done if he had Florida's weapons?
I think it is all relative. Competition is less but so is his weapons.

My friend when Dan Marino was at PITT it was considered a powerhouse!! They put alot of guys in the NFL during that era!! Look it up!!!John Elway went to Stanford. Dan Marino went to Univ. of Pittsburgh. Neither one of those schools are considered college football powerhouses. Jay Cutler went to Vanderbilt and he's looking pretty good so far. Terry Bradshaw went to Louisiana Tech and he made it to the Hall of Fame. Steve Young went to BYU and he's one of the 23 "Modern Era" QBs in the Hall of Fame.

It's not as easy coming from a lesser known school but other guys have done it and gone on to good careers. We shall see with John Beck too. The rubber meets the road once he gets named the starter and plays about 8-10 games. Then, we'll get an idea about his talent and long term potential.

So, it doesn't mater that Soliai & Eric Weddle ((FS (drafted in the 2nd by the Chargers)) were on the Utah squad that day?
As for the game itself, The Utes left far too much time on the clock. I don't fault Evans (the other Ute safety) came to help Soliai lay a lick on Beck?
The thing that gripes me about Utah is that current coach Kyle Whittingham (Urban Meyer's successor) is as bland and clueless as Wannstedt.
Despite being a U of Utah grad, I was stoked when the phins drafted Beck. JB is the best QB to come out of BYU since Ty Detmer. The best being Jim McMahon.
