These comments were early season comments made by Randy Mueller, Miami's GM in title:

GOOD QB CROP

In New Orleans at one point, Mueller put together a depth chart at quarterback that included Aaron Brooks, Jake Delhomme and Marc Bulger. All three now are NFL starters.

''I would like to get to that here at some point,'' he said. ``Quarterback is tough because if you just measure physical ability, you'd eliminate a lot of good players. That's a hard position. You've got to see them under fire.

``Growing up in Seattle with the Seahawks, Dave Krieg, you wouldn't pick him out of a practice for 10 years. But on Sundays when the real bullets were flying, he was a different player. That's why I think it's important for me to get out there to see some of these guys myself and see how they operate and play when people are coming at them as opposed to practice.''

Mueller, a former small-college quarterback, said he believes that part of building a good quarterback situation is constantly taking one in the draft.

''I kind of subscribe to the Ron Wolf method that you want to draft one every year,'' Mueller said, referring to the way Wolf took quarterbacks when he was GM in Green Bay. ``They're always valuable. You can't have enough of them. Again, it's finding the guys who fit your system. That's the critical part of it.''

So, some of you guys. Sit back and relax on the quarterback issue. We aren't dealing with a scouting department run by Dave Wannstedt who absolutely feared drafting a QB for any reason. This GM in particular is dedicated to improving the Dolphins quarterback situation. It won't happen overnight, but Randy has a pretty damn good reputation of being able to find good quarterbacks.

So relax. Quit thinking about getting someone elses back up, a career back up, or someone who needs to retire soon. This scouting staff will leave no stone unturned in their attempt to get a quarterback. I guarantee you that they will draft a quarterback at some point in April.

Theres no question Saban is drafting a Rookie this april. He'll probably have a QB slotted for each round,if that QB is there he'll take him.Saban will not make the mistake of our last 2 coaches made.He also maybe looking at 3rd stringer (young guys) like the Cleo Lemon types that wont break the bank on other teams. We will draft a QB this year, next year and there after.

We neglected this position for too long......

The team hasn't been the same since Marino retired. Hoping to see that change real soon.

I've been thinking about the fact that we should draft a QB in april and another the next draft too....we draft O-linemen almost every year and the same can be say for d-line and DB's so why not QB's who are so important?

Ozzy rules!!

lets draft 7 QB's this year and have them battle it out for the starting spot

I agree though you can never have to many good QB's they are always some way valuable

I agree that Mueller will find a few diamonds....but the Dolphins won't use a high draft pick for one of them. Forget about Leinart, Cutler and Young...and look at QB's like Drew Olson in the 4th round or Ryan Hart in the 7th round.

The idea that Mule would bring in something like Brooks is scarey. Who was that other dumb QB he brought in down there? Delhome and Bulger ultimately ended up being competent (though nothing big while at NO), but did he trade them off or was that Haslett's doing after Mule left?

Aaron Brooks was a third string QB for the Packers when Mueller traded for him.

Jeff Blake?

I think SABAN will handle everything EXCEPT finding a QB. I believe that is the MAIN REASON he brought in Mueller.

Our drafts on offensive linemen as of late have been busts. We need to get offensive linemen the likes of Keith Simms and Richmond Webb. Perinnial Pro Bowlers who were instrumental in Marino being as successful as he was. I've been wishy washy on Frerrotte this season. I still don't believe he's the answer to our offensive play howver, had he had a line with good calibur players, he MIGHT and I emphsize might have played alot better this season than he did.

There will be a hard look at the offense in the off season and prior to the draft. I only hope that no matter what we do, we get the right pieces to this puzzle figured out.

Whew...can't say I like your QB selection pete. Drew Olson in the 4th round would be a baaaaaaaaaaaad idea. He's the Cade McNown of 4th rounders. And Ryan Hart isn't even on the radar screen I don't believe. You can't just look at these guys' senior seasons when evaluating these guys...you have to figure out what changed, if something changed. In Olson's case he did change a bit but he still shows some of the same old career tendencies. He doesn't have physical gifts that significantly outweigh the inconsistency that litters his career...and neither does Hart.

Remember, the 4th round is the round of guys like Travis Daniels, Will Poole, Randy McMichael. Even Deon Dyer and Lorenzo Bromell were good contributors. The 4th has been a sweet spot for our team as far as finding contributors who fell out of the first day perhaps a little unfairly during the fast-paced action. The 4th is like the first round of the second day...teams have a chance to regroup the night of the first day and figure out what guys ended up falling during all the action and who they should target, etc. To me, a 4th is nearly as valuable as a 3rd. That is why I would only reluctantly spend a 4th on a QB if that QB was a guy that really SHOULD have gone first day but somehow ended up not going first day during all the action...and Drew Olson just doesn't fit that profile for me.

Currently, both Olson and Hart are guys that I have down as being lucky to be drafted...well, especially Hart. Olson I have maybe in the 6th or 7th but Hart is a UDFA I would think. There's too many other decent QBs, and only about 14 get drafted any given year I think.

Great read, I've wanted a good young franchise QB ever since Dan left, here's to hoping they find one soon.
