Just watched the Ravens play the Jets and the Giants (via YouTube), here are my thoughts:

  • Flacco will throw 3 - 6 bombs a game, mostly to Wallace. -> DB's have to make sure they avoid PI calls, and/or falling down while covering deep throws.
  • Ravens offensive line will allow pressure. -> Wake and Suh should have big games.
  • When pressured Flacco either throws it out of bounds, or he'll throw a pick. -> Lippett and Maxwell should at least get one pick this game.
  • West is no Ajayi. I liked West coming out, but he reminded me of Karim Abdul Jabbar as a runner. No burning desire to drive forward. -> We should be able to shut their run game down.
  • Matt Forte did some nice work against their front 7. -> Jay should get about 75 to 125 yards against these boys even with Pouncey out.
  • The Jets burned them with middle of the field screens, too bad we don't run those. -> I don't see Gase adding this play to our game plan.
  • Jets and Giants killed their DB's with their speed. -> Unfortunately, our only WR with flash speed (Jakeem) does not get any WR playing time. Stills I don't see with Wallace or O'dell like wheels.
  • Jets and Giants WR also caught plenty of short routes. -> Landry should have a big game, and hopefully Carroo can catch a few 5 to 15 yarders as well.
  • I like the Ravens fullback, he is a stud, he can catch and run. -> No comment on his effect on the game.
  • They throw to Pitta across the middle about 5 times a game. -> I think Kiko can cover Pitta one on one, unlike our past MLB's.
  • The Ravens defense gang tackle. -> Jay must hit the hole like Matt Forte. Any side to side wiggling, or dancing, and you are looking at a 3 yard loss.
  • Ravens kicker is automatic. -> We cannot get into a field goal battle with these guys.
  • Both games (losses) were away games for the Ravens, so I am sure they will play us tougher at home.

Hey thanks for the thoughts. Im definitely concerned vs Wallace deep. Too bad Howard and jones are out

BUT grant isn't our only wr with speed. Stills is fast. Parker is no slouch either honestly

I think Parker will play, but I don't know how effective he will be with a sore back. I think he could really kill the Ravens if he were fully healthy.

I like Stills, I just don't think he runs as fast as Beckham or Wallace.

I agree though, Reshad Jones would really help in this game.

His TD last season off the playaction against them was alpha, just a monster jump and catch. Will be missed.

Dixon will get more snaps than west and Jimmy smith is coming off injury and said to be lookin sluggish. Their secondary looks suspect to me other than jimmy. It's gona be hard to run against them. Flacco likes the underneath crossing routes is my take.

I wish Jimmy Wilson was trying to cover any of our games

Thanks for the input on those two games.

Just a note: When the Ravens D faced the Jets they were missing 4 high quality defensive starters. 3 LBs - Suggs, Dummervil, and Mosley, and starting CB Wright. All of whom are now healthy. That was a major reason for Forte's numbers and the success they found with the middle screens.

Depending on the severity of Alono's hamstring injury, though he is expected to play, if he isn't up to full speed his matchup vs Pitta might be troublesome.

If Parker plays he will merely be a decoy. I imagine the Ravens would sniff that out pretty quick and not bother putting their top corner on him.

Taking form lines from these previous Ravens matches will not help you. Their offensive line was banged up and Flacco way out of form. The O line is playing better now and even suspect players Zuttah and Ducasse played well last match...and Flacco is gradually returning to form.

The Ravens running game is better than you expect. West is playing fairly well and Dixon is just starting to break out. They will likely trouble the Dolphins. I like Kenyan Drake....but Dixon went in the 4th round to the Ravens!....and is a superior all-round player.

The Ravens secondary was suspect first half of the season but rookie Tavon Young has stepped up to take an outside corner position...and looks like a future star. Ladarius Webb....new to the safety position...has finally got his head round the position and is starting to play better. So the secondary is now looking quite solid.

If the Ravens offense suddenly hits form then they are true SB contenders and there are some signs that it may do that. i.e Flacco, Perriman and Dixon all continuing to improve.

If Flacco continues to misfire and the Dolphins defend well then they are in with a fair chance of the upset!

Relax Dude - Stills has great wheels. If healthy he has terrific speed. Absolutely, definitely faster than Mike Wallace now. I don't know what you are watching if you haven't seen Kenny's natural speed. Jakeem has allegedly beaten Kenny at practice but it was close.

Need to watch the PI for sure. I don't know how many they have gotten this year, but history shows that the Raven are close to leading the NFL in getting PI calls to go their way. I wouldn't be surprised to see Maxwell pick up a couple.
