just wondering your thoughts on this take of Saban/Alabama

Alabama wants him. They won't get him. IMO, they need to fit the chair in their head coaching office for Tom Coughlin: the guy will be unemployed soon.

And if Alabama makes an offer that tempts Saban, Huizenga won't counter-offer. The counter-offer is the fact that Huizenga is signing Saban's paychecks. He'll sooner fire Saban.

Wayne would sooner see Nick in the back of a Waste Management truck than bow to extortion of that sort.

i realy hope saban stays he is a huge part of this team i can tell his plan doesent take 2 years so many of you are crancy but we should give him 2-3 more seasons with a new O-cordinator and he will take us far

If your coach is motivated by money, he's doing the job for the wrong reason. I'd certainly hope Nick wouldn't be retained.

I dont see how Wayne could give a raise and extension to a guy who might have a losing record over 2 years. I dont think Saban is stupid enough to try and play us for more money.

I think if he leaves it wont be money, the guy has enough as it is. He will make the move becuase he loves college IMO.

I can see your point, but that was not how I meant it...I know that Nick would not ask for a counter offer...which would be extortion, but had wondered if H would try and keep him by making a counter offer of his own accord. I was just wondering, as I said above since he put up with so much with wanny...t

2 years ago Saban was a highly regarded college coach, probably the most highly regarded college coach in terms of NFL potential. In light of that Huizenga gave him a very generous contract to come and fix the Dolphins.

Now, with the additional information that we've all seen over the last two years, it's obvious that he may be a good coach but he's not a saviour who singlehandedly is going to do what Dave Wannstedt could not and put the Dolphins over the top.

If he honors his contract I'm guessing Huizenga will be profoundly grateful and happy to have him. But he's not worth one penny more than he was two years ago. In fact he's not worth what he was two years ago. His results don't justify a big raise.

I agree with the posters above who say that if he chooses to leave Huizenga will just let him go. Very rich men hate being taken for fools and they hate being extorted.

He is under CONTRACT for three more years. H will enforce the terms of that contract just like he made Ricky live up to the terms of his deal. Sabans is not going to pay the $13 mill out of his pocket just to take the Bama job.
Bottomline is Bama will have to pony up the $13 mill remaining on Nicks legally binding agreement with the Miami Dolphins.

I believe Nick put an out in his contract if he went back to college. Either way if a University has enough to pay 50m then they can cover the 13 owed if he left.

Hey Nick if you leave your not the tallest guy in the world. Don't let the door knob hit you in the head!

When Nick was hired I hoped for the best knowing the transition from College to Pro for head coaches was a crapshoot at best. After watching some of Nick's missteps, including very marginal drafts and poor FA quarterback choices, I really don't give a damn if he leaves or not. While he was the hottest name 2 years ago, he now appears in over his head.

I wish Nick would leave for Alabama. He suks at picking talent his head is stuck in the SEC. Besides if he left it would open the door for a good NFL coach like Bill Cower when he becomes available.

Yep agreed, plus, what if he does not like the NFL like he thought..that is not the money or loyalty..it is being comfortable & happy.
