a week or two ago i saw the kickers competition which had 4-5 kickers that might be drafted in this years draft and let me tell you i was not impressed with mason crosby. The good news was that i saw two kickers that looked great that could be had in the later rounds. One was Justin Medlock who is the left footed kicker from UCLA. There was another guy that caught my attention but i cant remember his name at this point. Any way medlock was super fast in setting up his kicks and i believe he made 5/6 or hit the full six. The pressure was on him and he looked comfortable.. I would love to pick this guy up and drop mare IF we are going with an infusion of youth and want to change the fortunes of this franchise. What do you guys think?

What's his range? Can his kickoffs make it to the endzone? If Mare would take a pay cut I would prefer to stick with him unless we get a guy who can give us some touchbacks and long field goals when we need them.

i seen him hit one from 55 that had the distance to go 5-10 more yards.. and more important it was straight down the middle after he kicked 4 other field goals in 1 min and 30 sec... in the same drills mason crosby only hit 3-5 in which the 55 yarder was wayyyy off.

Mare only makes 1.5 mil this year. That's cheap for a good kicker...I don't see him taking a cut since these guys contracts are based on what they have done, not what they will do...Get off Mare's back...we have way too many holes to fill to create another hole by cutting Mare...

Medlock is a very accurate kicker but doesn't have anywhere near the range that Crosby has....I think Crosby can kick it at least 10 yards farther than anyone else, including kick offs. Whatever we do, hopefully Mare will no longer be here next year....he gets paid too much to miss gimme kicks. :rolleyes2

I was there in person to see both and I must say on THAT day
Medlock was far better in distance and accuracy than Crosby.

Everything Medlock kicked was splitting the uprights right in half
and Crosby seemed to let the pressure get to him and was all over the place.

More important than the competition was all the practice kicks I watched
and Medlock was BY FAR the best kicker that day in practice and competition.

Medlocks kicks had incredible lift as they were leaving his foot...plus he had more than enough distance where the other kickers including Crosby were kicking line drives...very innacurate ones.

If we go kicker in this draft MY fat body will be doing flips if we draft this kid in the later rounds
HE IS THAT GOOD!!!

length is not an issue with crosby. I have a cousin who lives in ft.collins and he said crosby has made a 65+yarder in a game. It didn't count though because the other team called a timeout, and than I think he missed the second kick. I seem to remember him saying it was a 69 yarder, but that seems rediculous.

Medlock definately did have the better day at the challenge. I was impressed with him as well. I would take either of these two kickers. crosby will be successful in the league though, mark my words.

I'm all about some Medlock, especially since we have an extra 6th now.

What he has done is miss far too many FGs, time to cut dead weight. I could careless about his touchbacks, he's leaving far too many points on the field.

I like Medlock but I think we can get him without expending anything more than a 7th rounder.

Agreed.
He looked very solid in that kicking challenge and he also looked pretty good playing this year at UCLA.

Certainly did bounce back from his drunk driving accident and played well for us, especially in the clutch against USC. Will need to keep it clean in the pros or he'll be Janikowski II. Plus, he does have some inconsistency bouts that usually iron out in the pros.
