Justin Smiley G Shoulder Did Not Participate In Practice

I hadn't heard previously that he was injured.....anyone know the severity?

Hope it is nothing that will keep him out. Being held out on Wednesday does happen a lot around the league. We should start to be worried if he is held out tomorrow and Friday.

he is really the unsung hero of this team. coming into the season we knew that he would be a quiet complement to a great (on paper) line. but now carey isnt playing well and satlele isnt playing up to capacity. smiley and long were really the guys that u could count on week in and week out. a terrible injury at the worst possible pos at the worst possible time.

i wonder if this had anything to do with the brandon frye pickup? to add depth incase this turns out bad. if thats the case im scared.

Guys Sparano said it was nothing and he would practice on Thursday. Yesterday he was on Bokampers show and he said he came out pretty banged up from the Denver game and that the game was a real backyard brawl.

Nothing to be worried about just resting a sore shoulder.

Smiley jacked that one Bronco's player up on Ronnie's TD..That looked like it hurt both of them.

Well, we knew that one of the things that we somewhat ignored or didn't get to this off season was O-line depth and we knew that if people got hurt, we wouldn't have the replacements we needed to be successful. well we lost our RG Donald Thomas early i the year and have been OK with his back up (Ndwuke or Murphy?) but if Smiley can't play I'm not too sure that we can recover from a loss like that. Our worst fears seem to be coming true and hopefully we can find someone who can play at a caliber where our run game can be successful and Penny isn't pressured constantly from a rush up the middle. IMO, pressure up the middle is the worst place to get it because if its coming from the outside, you can at least step up and by a little time but the middle you have to roll out and limit your vision of the entire field a bit. Also you risk the chance the end catching you unawares as you roll and the chance of fumbles rises a lot if that happens!

Please heal quickyl Smiley, or maybe play with it with a lot of good meds

hope he's ok...he did have the key block on the 30 yard run by Ronnie...Smiley drove the guy back about 20 yards and Ronnie ran behing his block

Ozzy rules!!

Uh oh. Smiley has EASILY been our best OLman so far this year. He is simply dominating in the run game.

I hope this wasn't the same shoulder he had issues with in SF.

Unfortunately, it is the same shoulder. I spent five minutes trying to find the link where I read that. It does not seem to be a significant injury, but it sounds like his previously injured shoulder is prone to soreness. If he can make it through the season without another injury to the shoulder, then he should be able to build it up in the offseason. I would expect a 10 to 15% degradation in his effectiveness. Still a solid contributor, but he will not be as good as earlier in the season. I am glad the coaches are letting him rest it.
