Karlos Dansby - ILB
Antonio Bryant - WR

Cuts/Trades/Not Resigned

Kory Sheets (cut)
Akin Ayodele (cut)
Yeremiah Bell (trade if possible, but more than likely cut, rumors have his deal structured like a 1 year deal . . love the guy, but Wilson is younger and we aren't cutting him, Wilson needs to be SS.)
Greg Camarillo (trade for a fifth)
Phillip Merling (trade for a third)
Erik Walden (cut, love his ST, but we have some guys who can do it)
Joey Haynos (trade for a 7th)
Nate Jones (not resigned)
Jason Ferguson (not resigned - him and Bell were the 2 toughest not to bring back, but we drafted 2 3-4 NT's . . . we have to let them develop. Maybe Jason sticks around to help coach the NT's.)

Draft

1. Earl Thomas - FS - Texas
2. Dan Williams (pipe dream, but who knows) - NT - Tennessee
3. Brandon Lang - OLB - Troy
3. Micah Johnson - ILB - Kentucky
4. Boo Robinson - NT - Wake Forest
5. Jimmy Graham - TE - Miami
6. Leroy Vann - CB/KR/PR - FAMU
6. SS prospect
7. OT prospect
7. OG prospect
7. QB prospect

Roster

QB - Henne/White/Thigpen
RB - Brown/Williams/Cobbs/Hilliard
FB - Polite
WR - Bryant/Ginn/Bess/Hartline/Turner
TE - Fasano/Nalbone/Graham

LT - Long/Gardner
LG - Smiley/Garner
C - Grove/Berger
RG - Thomas
RT - Carey

DE - Langford/McDaniel
NT - Soliai/Williams/Robinson
DE - Starks/Dotson

SOLB - Taylor/Lang/Moses
ILB - Dansby/Torbor
ILB - Crowder/Johnson
WOLB - Porter/Wake/Anderson

CB - Davis/W Allen/Smith/J Allen/Vann
FS - Thomas/Clemmons
SS - Wilson/Culver

LS - Denney
K - Carpenter
P - Fields

Special Teams: Vann, Cobbs, J. Allen, Clemmons, Culver, Anderson, Polite, Torbor, Graham, Nalbone

Inactives: Thigpen, Hilliard, Robinson, Dotson, Turner, Moses, Gardner, Johnson

Summary

Reasonable in my eyes. Got lucky in the draft . . . but it happens. ILB is fixed with Dansby and Johnson. Went LB pairs in the 3rd round and also went NT pairs . . . sticking with the theme of this FO the past 2 drafts. OLB got an upgrade with Lang and Wake in his 2nd year. FS was upgraded. NT was upgraded with youth and talent. Veteran #1 WR was addressed. We got a potential talent at TE. I really think an offseason like this will go along way into fixing this team into a contender year in and year out.

Next Year

We gave the JT/JP combo one final year . . . even tho they are starters for 2010, they won't get nearly as much work as they did in 2009. Expect the Lang/Wake combo to be big for years. After the 2010 season, there will be no more JT/JP/Ricky. With those 3 guys gone, and possibly Ronnie . . . expect RB, OLB and WR to be the 3 big positions to tackle. Ginn/Hartline devolopment will show us how much we really need WR. But with Julio Jones, Green and Floyd all coming out in 2011 . . WR will be plentiful. Did a great job in 2010 FIXING the defense. Now 2011 will be all about the offense and skill players.

Why would we cut Bell. He is our best DEFENSIVE player, just a little above Starks, Wilson is HORRIBLE, Cut his sorry ***. But i love everything else :hi5:

Yea man, I like Bell . . . he wasn't even close to being our Defensive MVP (Randy Starks by a mile) . . . but he is a leader in the secondary and our leading tackler. He is below average in coverage and he is gonna be 32. If that big roster bonus is due before FA, Bell won't be back. Wilson I feel will be just as solid at SS, he is 5 years younger and is better in coverage. We dog Wilson, but he is playing out of position, he will be a beast with Bell out of the picture. Plus we aren't cutting Wilson after all that money we gave him in the offseason.

Wilson/Thomas would be a nice safety combo.

Honestly, how can you really say that?!

Merling is under achieving, hes not playing great, i doubt we could get a 3rd for him.

also, why would you not resign Nate Jones? that baffles me..

i really like it besides the wilson/bell scenario and trading merling for a third. wilson would be better at SS - but that isn't saying much. he's awful in coverage and had trouble getting ball carriers down in the open field. bell has proven his worth here and deserves to stay IMO. we used a 2nd on merling a few years back - and his best years in the NFL are yet to come - so losing value like that unnecessarily is counter productive IMO.

and i totally think bryant will be on this team next year as well.

why would you trade merling for a third ?

Obviously if we can get a second for him u do it . . . and I like Merling, do I think he is the prototypical 3-4 DE, nah not really, but I feel the starters are set with Langford and Starks, and we have 2 guys who can provide depth with McDaniel and Dotsen . . . getting a second/third back would be beneficial to this team in other areas. Now if Merling wants to transisition to the elephant LB spot and does the work this offseason and shed the pounds, maybe we try him there, but I still think a low 2nd/high 3rd is good for Merling.

Remember adding Williams to the rotation as a NT/DE guy will help ease the loss.

Honestly, how can you really say that?!

I just feel when we put Wilson at SS, he will be better in coverage as a SS than Bell is.

I hated Gerbil this year, but I realize that FS is not for him . . . SS is better suited for him and I think he will excel there. Do I think next year he will be better than Bell? I can't say that . . . but he has youth and guaranteed money on his side, so the Front office has to stick by that decision.

I don't think Merling is under achieving more than we just have a real solid DE rotation. I think a high second/low third is very possible with him.

I like Nate Jones, the battle will be between him and Jason Allen for that #4 CB spot. I have Vann as the #5 guy because he will handle all of the return duties for this team. I am not keeping 6 CB's. I still think Jason has room for improvement and is was an MVP on special teams for this team last season. Nate Jones is pretty much at his ceiling IMO. Jason also is the better man coverage CB. Nate Jones is sick on those blitzes, even tho Ben made him look kinda silly in that last game.

Jason is the better man coverage? huh?

Not only is Nate Jones better all around the Jason, but hes worlds better in the slot. where the #4 CB would be. When you have S.Smith and V.Davis at CB, those 2 are going to be on the outside all the time. Jason is one of the worst CBs of all time in the inside.

also, i might be reaching a tad, but i may venture out to say Nate Jones was our best CB last season, and to even say there is a fight between him and Jason is insane IMO.

Jones our best CB last season? Wow, he was solid early on, but he faded late bro . . . Welker took him to school in that 2nd New England game and they took Nate out and put Jason Allen on him and Jason Allen didn't allow Welker to do anything in the second half. In the same game, Vontae Davis got hurt and Jason came in and made an incredible play in the endzone on Randy Moss and didn't allow anything. Jones was getting TORCHED in the slot later in the year.

U say Nate Jones is our best CB last year . . . we should do a poll on which DB u rather cover Andre Johnson/Randy Moss . . . Jason Allen or Nate Jones . . . I wouldn't be the bit suprised to see Jason Allen win that poll . . . tho u will have the haters that have already given up on him try to downplay his improvement.

Trust me, people love Nate Jones ability on the blitz . . . but we all know he is pretty WEAK in coverage. U are kidding yourself if u don't believe that. He is better in the slot, but all I'm saying is, when I saw Jason shut down Welker, maybe he has IMPROVED over the past few years and has become a more versatile CB. Clearly going into this year Jones was the better DB, Jason has the higher ceiling. Maybe Jason has finally come around.

Jason Allen didn't do anything to make me say I have had it with this guy this year. If anything, I want to see more . . . he really looked better this year.

i guess agree to disagree man. its like we watched 2 different seasons from the 2. the only thing good at CB i seen JA do was that play on Moss in the endzone. but he was torched repeatally this season, whether they connected on the passes or not. he got very little playing time compared to NJ, so naturally he wasnt getting torched left and right.

im not sure what game your talking about where Welker torched Jones and then Allen shut him down? i remember Welker torching S.Smith the 2nd game.
