I am very surprised that many Dolphin fans want to give up on John Beck and cut him after only a little more than one year on the Dolphins roster, even though he does have some skills required to become a good NFL QB. He would not have been a 2nd round pick if he did not have some talent. Obviously, he does not yet have good field general skills, panics too often and fumbles the ball too much. He also is not very accurate throwing in actual games for a player that is supposedly very accurate in practice. But these are mostly mental mistakes or pressure related faults. However, this is only his 2nd year, in his 2nd offense, and some people are slower learners than others. I am sure not all of you have had instant success in everything you have done, but many of you have likely hit a point when everything just clicked and you got much better after a lot of hard work (like when it finally clicks when trying to learn a foreign language after struggling through the process). Saying I was even an average high school football player is probably stretching the truth, but I know I played a ton better my last year of high school when I finally new the system well enough so that I could stop thinking about things and react naturally to what was going on during the games. This is probably part of Beck’s problem as well. I am thrilled that we acquired Pennington. Henne has been a quick learner and appears more talented than Beck. I am very glad we drafted him! I like both Pennington and Henne better than Beck. However, over time Beck may get better and cutting him at this point doesn't seem smart. If Beck had been on the team for 3 full years and still wasn't showing improvement, then I say give him the boot. But if we can develop him and he improves, we could always trade him in the future or maybe he could even be our starter. McCown on the other hand has been in the league for several years and has been below average. He really has no upside. Plus, learning how McCown almost sliced his finger off this summer cutting wood makes me think he is a real dumb a**. I strongly doubt we could trade him today for a draft pick if we wanted to. Since we are talking about our likely 3rd string QB; wouldn't it be better to have a player on our roster who we might be able to get something in return for in the future - via compensation in a trade or possibly playing well for us. Remember Tony Romo was a back up in Dallas for several years, learning the skills necessary to be a good NFL QB, before he was able to shine. Maybe Beck will get better with time, maybe not; but I do not think McCown will get better if he is not performing at a higher level at this point in is career. Should we keep Beck or McCown, what to you think?

They should play Beck as much as they can during the preseason & hope to GOD he plays well enough to garner any trade value. Josh McCown has no trade value. I'd rather try to trade Beck and get ANYTHING in return if I'm the Dolphins than get nothing & just eat McCown's salary.

Keep Beck and cut McCown. McCown is nothing more then a journeyman and we have not had a long enough look at Beck. Add in the fact that Beck was a 2nd round pick just a year ago and you can't cut him loose until you know exactly what he gives us.

being 27 and all im afraid you're pretty much seeing what john beck brings to the table. keep him though he has the potential to develop into a solid 3rd stringer in the nfl

Nice read. defenitely Beck. he has more upside than Mckown. BUT, if chris simms is released, or someother QB better than Beck, than i think and know that both beck and Mckown are gone.

You trade Beck because McCown is fine as a back up. And i do believe he's cheaper.

But then... who the hell is going to trade for Beck? We have no leverage.

With everything Beck has shown maybe we can trade him for enough spare ribs to have a BBQ.

Just because he was a second round pick does NOT mean he is worth anything. Especially when the Phins are the ones making the picks... remember Eddie Moore? How about John Avery, Sammie Smif, Erik Kumero, John Boso, Yatil Green and a whole list of "talented" low round picks the Dolphins have made over the years. If Beck gets cut we can add him to the list

Love the station. Love your show.

Even IF the guy isn't nfl starting material or has any trade value, starters go down ALL the time and capable backups are extremely valuable. McCown's are a dime a dozen, can be found anywhere at any time. We still dont know what we have in Beck.

heck, i know it was FOREVER ago, but there was a certain undefeated season you all may remember in which our starter went down very early. If not for Morrall, this team likely doesnt even make it to the SB, much less finish undefeated. I'm obviously not comparing these dolphins to the 72 team, just sayin.

Is Beck eligible for the practice squad? LOL J/K. I think Henne has far more upside than Beck. Like coach said, he isn't trying to worry about hurting anyones feelings.....it's time to win. I like that mentality. I am tired of losing and people at work clowning me for loving the Dolphins like the team is comparable to a very unfaithful wife.

It should be a good race for the third string QB slot...Between Beck and McCown....and we all thought they would be competing to be the starter.

You have a better shot of trading peanuts for a bag of marbles than you do trying to get any value from Beck. Anything more than a 5th would be a miracle. At best we'll get a marginal player for Beck in a flat out trade.
