Good to see that Miami is very interested in keeping picks past their rookie deals in Odrick, Clay, Pouncey, OV, Miller, and Tannehill. Can't remember when this last happened.

The last 1st round draft pick to receive a second contract with the Dolphins was Vernon Carey.

Reshad Jones did receive a second contract last year so he would be the last drafted player to be resigned.

You make a very good point. One reason we are relatively good shape with the cap is the fact that the last three or four draft classes have been markedly better than the preceding decade or so. The drafting hasn't been superlative, but it has improved, and that shows in the retention of players.

Jeff Ireland went on a little run from 2010 to 2012, not great, but decent (although he missed on "greatness" every chance he got) . . . but 2013 has been so dreadful, combined with the majority of his free agent acquisitions throughout his tenure . . . . it has made his existence forgettable.

I agree with the concept though. You spend time developing players and getting them in the system and building that bond with team mates . . . it is great to keep that type of cohesion on a team. Ultimately it becomes cheaper as well as players have started to have families and setting down roots and often, these players will give a team that "hometown discount" because they are happy. Being in South Florida and having no state tax also helps

If we can add two legit starters in this yea's drat, have a couple step up from prior drafts like Turner, Tayloy, maybe even Jordan, with others who flashed, to fo with the above and Jones, Jenkins, Landry and James, we could be looking pretty good.

We still do not yet have the Star power but, just maybe that will come as well.

Which players from prior drafts does everyone see as a potential starter/rotational guy?

you'd actually think Jeff Ireland tried his hardest to get fired based on what he did during that 2013 off-season. if so, that's the only thing he aced
