Jeff Ireland went on a little run from 2010 to 2012, not great, but decent (although he missed on "greatness" every chance he got) . . . but 2013 has been so dreadful, combined with the majority of his free agent acquisitions throughout his tenure . . . . it has made his existence forgettable.
I agree with the concept though. You spend time developing players and getting them in the system and building that bond with team mates . . . it is great to keep that type of cohesion on a team. Ultimately it becomes cheaper as well as players have started to have families and setting down roots and often, these players will give a team that "hometown discount" because they are happy. Being in South Florida and having no state tax also helps
