Shelly played in 9 games, and was actually better in pass blocking than run blocking overall. This is not who he was but, coaches chose to try him at center in camp. Not a VG idea. He will cost $3m if kept, and we save $2.75M if he is moved.

I'm on the fence here, while leaning towards keeping him. I thought Benton could develop him at OG but, no shot at C.

I'm going with what ever Benton believes same as for Thomas and Turner.

Thomas needs to go regardless of what Benton might say.

did Shelly Smith pass block well for us??? I remember many times where I was shaking my head with him out there

I think he gets paid too much, but our line has been so bad the last few years, with many injuries. Smith is decent depth at G, and C if absolutely necessary. We need to have depth so I guess I would say keep him.

I thought his run blocking was really good the first couple of games but he was getting bullied in the passing plays. way better than Dallas Thomas in my mind

At $3M....he has to go.

Put that $3M towards a nice FA signing at OG and use the draft to find some depth. Or, you release him and possibly resign him at a lower number. I doubt he will get $3M on the open market.

Not well, just better than his run blocking which was surprising. He graded out at -3.2 on pass blocking, and -6.9 on the run. Last year, he was -6 on the pass, and +13.2 on the run.

So hard to judge anyone on last year's OL when the only guys who played where they were supposed to play were two late signs from players no one else wanted in Satele and Colledge. How does a player show the ability to grade out at + 13 one year, and -7 the next? Maybe spending preseason with a new scheme trying to play a position he was never meant to play. I give him another year.

Keep.

Decent depth, bit expensive but it is what it is.

LT - Albert
LG - Turner
C - Pouncey
RG - FA
RT - James

Bench, only certain at this point I think is Shelly. Won't be shocked to see Garner retire if this head stuff continues which forced him to miss the entire season. Dallas is probably cut if he can't beat out bench players for a back up Guard position. Colledge, Satele both gone/retire.

Bit shocking that we enter the off-season looking at a full over-haul of the WR corp and a full over-haul at the O-line bench.

thanks for the info... and i agree its not easy playing on a line that in itself is very sub par and struggling at the C position. Nice to get Satele off the couch though!!!

Yeah, the WR's and DL were 'SUPPOSED TO BE" strengths of the team. So much for how that worked out. :(
