we obviously missed him in the vikings game. the first game he is out our rush defense went wayy downhill. it sucks that he is near the end of his career and really does the same thing every season, plays about 10 games then his knee gives out. he's a monster though and im glad he chose to come here for the end of his career.

I know the man is a beast and he is having one of the best seasons of his whole career.

Our final numbers against the Minnesota running game were not bad at all.

True they picked it up in the second half. Still though, Traylor makes a big impact on our front line, and he is sorely missed.

at the end we picked it up but w/out a nose tackle we are screwed. Zgi is too small and NOT a DT starting material.

Basically this is an example where the first drive of the game made the biggest impression. There were serious problems in that game with the first drive and allowing big runs...but the primary culprit believe it or not was missed tackles.

They tightened up the tackling, made some adjustments on the DL that saw Wilkinson involved more at NT, and bam...no more running.

All in all the Vikes averaged 3.2 ypc against us. That's very poor, I don't care how you slice it.

CK... After reading several posts of yours lately... I feel that you believe in our chances to take the next step... Correct me if I am wrong though...:D

Let me add the mayo then. 3.2 ypc and 2 fumbles

Started out weak but finished very strong.

I'm conflicted. The offense hasn't shown any new ability to complete passes over 10 yards and they won't score more points until they do.

On the other hand the defense has stepped up and just plain stolen the last three games with unbelievable performances.

Consider that they've scored 21 points on their own and gave us the ball at the 6, 12, and 24 yard lines against the Bears. By my count that's about 30 points easy where they've only allowed in these three games about 36 points scored during meaningful playing time.

Speaking on a net basis, they've only asked the offense to supply 3 points per game to win each game on average. Kind of ridiculous, huh?

The thing is....yes, they can keep doing this. The way they're playing they absolutely can. The D is full of special playmakers that can make a lot of plays...JT first and foremost among them. But also KC, Zach, and now Yeremiah added to the mix.

But until this team can complete passes in the 11-20 yard range more consistently they won't be good enough to run the table. Many on this board believe Harrington is good enough to do that. I've had my doubts...but I have to admit, his paltry 29% completion in the 11-20 yard throw range is lower than even he had in Detroit last year. He was at the low end of success %, but it was still 50.0% which is still a HECK of a lot higher than right now. People wonder why I've been so down on him and this is a damn good part of it.

If Harrington gets that percentage to start going back up, then we could keep this thing rolling.

I till think the OL is the biggest problem.

Truck Traylor has 4 SACKS and the reagular season is not over yet AND he missed 1 game(prolly more) AND hes 37 years old..IMPRESSIVE how a guy his weight and age can be so athletic.

Come back soon Truck.

We should play Freddy Evans other rooks are contributing already and Evans played really well in the preseason games.

The funny thing is he got those sacks mostly on coverage sacks or when OL screw up because of the stunting of other linemen. He hasn't all the sudden found some new ability to pass rush that wasn't there before. He's always had the ability to split right through the double team on the bull rush, or to just knock a guy flat on his butt in single blocking. Because he happened to fall on the quarterback 2 more times than at this point last year everyone all the sudden thinks he's irreplaceable or that our run D can't cut it without him.

I watched the first half of the Vikings game again last night. It was really, really, remarkably simple. When Dan Wilkinson was in the game, he was most often in at NT, and we made plays on the run. When Jeff Zgonina was in at NT, he was better at making plays in the passing game, but not good against the run...engulfed is the word I'd use.

And, after some initial success on that first drive (partly from missed tackles, partly because we kept using Zgonina at NT before we wised up), we tightened up and Chester Taylor went virtually nowhere the rest of the game. He had 6 runs for 34 yards on that initial drive, only 46 yards on 22 rushes the rest of the game.
