For you guys who al went to te camps or the people that have read something how did this guy look in camp. I watched a few different highlight films and i like wat isee. He isnt so great against the pass but then again neither is zach and he has some really good size at 6'2" 240 lbs plus learning form zach channing and joey will help. Jus wonderin if you heard or saw somethin.

Lets just say I grew up in Syracuse and I dont know too much about him. He had over 100 tackles last year which is pretty good but I dont expect him to get any real playing time. I hope im wrong. Keith Bullock from the Titans (Who also was an absolute beast at SU) is his uncle so at least he has a pro bowl mentor

I liked what I saw as well. Kiper said he is a future starter. Don't know about the pass thing, but he finishes tackles, and looked pretty quick to me. He was fifth in the nation this year in tackles per game. Zach is actually VERY good in zone coverage, just not in man. The guy has a lot of interceptions on his career and has taken several to the house!

Hope he can pan out and be the steal in the 7TH like Thomas was in the 5TH.
He could be another Bell, under rated and alot of heart.
If he can tackle that is good. Its all about fundamentals,
and making plays.

I love football,Please come back.

yes i know zach is god in zone i was tlkin bout man tho should have stated that this kid hopfully turns into a player the role models and mentors r there

Zach is not that fast. Watching his videos,

the kid ran a 4.7 at his pro day and a 4.8 at the combine

Smith made quick movement to the ball once he knew where it was. Smith could surprise folks. He has some of the qualities you want in a middle linebacker, such as size and smarts. You generally do not get a middle linebacker as fast as Willis is.

I watch a ton of football, played at a fairly high level and have tonnes of games on DVD......IMHO only he cannot play a lick at this level. He takes poor angles, does not man up in the running game so he is not a SAM, does not have the athleticism for the weakside and cannot play effectivly inside. He looks almost mechanical and although I think he got the most out of his limited ability (probably a good stufent of the game and has bloodlines) IMHO he is our worst draft pick...and I really like our draft. He gets caught up with the bodies when playing down the line and makes a lot of his tackles from the side or downfield and he cannot cover a lick. Abe Wright is the better prospect IMHO...I REALLY hope I am wrong but since you solicited opinions...that my 2 cents...

I think Kelvin Smith will make the roster on special teams. He can tackle and is very consistant in that department. He is a project at LB no doubt but has the potential to be a good backup and possibly a decent starter at some point if you need him to be. I agree that he isn't suited for the outside spot really but should be able to contribute inside in the future IMO.

Zack has always stepped in pass coverage very well. However in height mismatches and speed you already know that is not the speciality of an inside linebacker or middle linebacker. They help out in coverage and that is what Zack Thomas does well.

Kelvin Smith is one of the guys I love taking in the 7th round. Guys who were very productive in college, but a part or two of their triangle numbers are lacking. Kind of like when we drafted Derrick Pope. Very productive in college, but he didn't have the size that you look for. In Smith's case, he has the size, but doesn't have the athletic ability on paper.
