Panthers | Kemoeatu is a potential cap casualty
Sun, 7 Jan 2007 09:54:38 -0800
<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/128">Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers DT Ma'ake Kemoeatu is a potential salary-cap casualty this offseason. The team could also decide to restructure his contract to lower his salary cap number for the 2007 season.

it would be cool if we could trade a 2nd day pick for him(if we still need a NT)

If he gets cut we won't need to give anything up for him and he is a huge NT and would be great for the 3-4 scheme that Capers runs if he sticks around.

I would rather get a proven NT for 5th or 6th rounder, than watch him sign with another team

don't know if you have been paying attention, but alot of teams are playing 3-4 and alot of teams have tons of cap room

I have been paying attention but the last thing this team needs to do is trade draft picks especially if he will get cut and then they can take their chances with him on the open market and if he does sign with someone else then Miami can draft a NT or use Manny Wright, Rodrique Wright and Fred Evans for the tackle position.

proven NT's are like gold these days

people are resistant to trading picks, but I would trade a second day pick for a proven starter every time

funny you bring up Manny, we used a 5th on a guy who doesn't want to play and yet you don't want to trade a pick for a guy who is playing

I doubt we'll have to trade a draft pick to get him, because if they resign him then they'll probably want more than we can give and if he gets cut then we can just make a run at him without having to give up anything except for cash. No more trading draft picks, that's why we have the oldest team in the AFC East if not the entire NFL...

thing is, he is not a proven NT. He played DE in the 3-4 at Baltimore, and was horrible this year for Carolina.

Maake Kemoeatu stayed out of the headlines when he played in Baltimore. But when the run-stopping defensive tackle left the Ravens to sign a five-year, $23 million free-agent deal with Carolina in the offseason, Ray Lewis was upset.
"He loves the game, so any time you lose someone like that it's a hurtful thing, especially at this point in my career," the seven-time Pro Bowl pick said last week. "His best football is in front of him because he is still learning so much."

I disagree

rey rey says that whenever someone from Baltimore leaves. He said the same thing when Baxter left gor Cleveland, when Hartwell left for Atlanta, and when the Ravens had to clean house in 2002 and lost Sharper.

Kemoeatu, 27, has developed over the past two seasons as one of the NFL's best young interior defenders against the run. At 350 pounds, the former Utah star absolutely eats up blockers and allows the linebackers to get to the football. He is the kind of anchor player most teams are now seeking for at least one of their defensive tackle spots.

sounds good to me

I'm starting to thing we should hire Rex Ryan

they keep coming up with excellent defensive players
