RB Hunter has torn his ACL and has been waived. He'd be a very interesting piece in the Lazor offense. Should we claim him for next season? Thoughts?

Don't pull a Billicheat.

He claimed Tyler Gaffney off waivers after he was IR/Waived by Panthers.

Same crap he did with Jake Ballard from Giants

No , maybe keep an eye on him in off season.

Just seen in nfl.com that hes a FA after this season, so no advantage in jumping early. He'd be an Interesting consideration in the offseason tho.

The 49ers are going to try and sneak injured tailback Kendall Hunter through waivers and onto injured reserve.

San Francisco waived Hunter with an “injured” designation on Monday, per the NFL’s transactions. Hunter suffered an ACL tear in late July — an injury that likely ends his 2014 season. Also, he’s an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. In short, any team adding Hunter via waivers might not have him for a single snap this year and could lose him next offseason. However, they would have roughly six months to try and sign Hunter to a new deal. Hunter is slated to make $645,000 in salary in 2014, according to NFLPA records.

By waiving the 25-year-old Hunter, the 49ers can conceivably use his roster spot to add another player as the preseason begins. However, they also risk a team snapping up Hunter, a solid reserve tailback when healthy.

Teams have shown a willingness to claim waived/injured players this summer, with Carolina losing tailback Tyler Gaffney to New England and Seattle losing offensive tackle Michael Bowie to Cleveland.

Hunter is okay, but his injury would greatly reduce any impact this season and next year there are too many running backs in the draft.

Ballard wasn't injured and if the Giants wanted to keep him they asks have given him a Contract. Give me a break with this, "something you just don't do crap". Coaches are trying to win football games

Sorry that is incorrect, Ballard was going to be placed on IR during offseason which requires going through waivers. However I agree that you need to use the rules available to gain every advantage to win.

What are the rules on that you can sign a player now to a contract next season?
