Goodday fin fans, today i'm switching sides and i'll scrutinize mister langford. The votes were pretty tight in the poll and i kinda wanted to write on langford for a while so i made the decision. I'm sorry for the ones who asked for a long or a satele review ...

RunRS stands for run right side, if i mention Kendall is on the right side, to keep it simple, he's on the right side of the offence, which means he's playside... because in fact, if i'd say he's on the right side of the defence, he'd be on the left side of the offence, thus, backside... i wanted to make that clear before getting into this ;)

as usual, i'll rate kendall by good bad and neutral plays.
hope you guys enjoy!

1st Quarter:

Drive #1 (15:00)

1&10: RunRS, KL is on right side. Kendall is blocked by #74 formerly their starting guard... but he's playing tackle. Kendall makes a textbook perfect play, he stays low, shoots his arms to harris's chest to create separation and then sheds the block to make a solo tackle (anderson ended up on the pile but langford would've dragged the ball carrier alone anyways...) for a loss of 1 yard. AWESOME play, didn't expect this analysis to start off this good hehe. Good play.

2&11: KL is not on the play, this is a 4-2-5 nickel and the ends are Porter and Roth. Honorable mention on this play to ferguson and porter. fergie created penetration and disrupted the play while joey porter sealed the edge like an end is coached to. Very nice play by both.

3&11: KL is not on the play, FYI this is a dime package it seems and i've seen it a few times... you usually put in there your long downs personnel which means you rush with fewer but better pass rushers....who are the three more trusted pass rushers ? drum roll........ joey porter (of course) ..... randy starks at nose tackle .... and phillip merling !

Drive #2 (11:27)

1&10: Pass, KL is on right side. He gets double teamed by the Tackle and guard... nothing he can do really. i really like the fact that he didn't try anything fancy and created running opportunities for the quarterback. He stayed home and took on 2 guys like a man. I'll give a good play grade, i've been in those situations and there's nothing you can do really, but keep position and jump in the air to tip the ball...kendall didn't because it didn't went his way but watching him tip some balls in other games my guess is he would've tried again here. Good play.

2&5: KL is not on the play. this is a nickel and a funny fact is phillip merling is playing DT next to joey porter who is the DE. Merling makes a very good pass rush.

3&5: KL is not on the play, it's the same 3 guys i've mentionned earlier. On those plays i'm watching phillip merling and to be quite honest i like what he does. Not only is he as powerful as matt roth but he's quicker and he has some moves to work with. Roth bulls himself through everytime but phillip can do both, bull or make finesse moves. It struck to me this time because i've seen him make a spin move earlier and was like okay... and now here i see a bull rush that almost blew off the guard on his rear end.

Drive #3 (5:49)

1&10: RunLS. KL is on RS. Nice initial contact, KL jumps at the guard and quickly gets position. The one thing i don't like is that kendall chose the easy way instead of fighting the pressure. the guard was not giving him the inside and kendall took the outside and stayed home. While i understand that against zone schemes you can't be running around like an idiot because those backside holes really hurt teams sometimes... and when i watched the Houston game, which is a zone running offence, those hole hurt us like HELL. I'll give him a good play for that purpose and because he had a good enough fight and in the end shedded the block even though it was a little too late.

2&8: Pass. KL is on the RS. Kendall and ferguson make a stunt inside. Which means ferguson must have penetration through the center and the RG and kendall swiflty must rush behind ferguson and rush between the center and LG. They did an OK job here, the one big reason why kendall didn't get to the quarterback is because the running back made a nice block on him. Kendall had to run through the RG for a second, then the LG and the RB, and he still disrupted the play. There was no sack or hit on the quarterback, but cutler was looking right in the way of kendall where his receiver was and because of big 70, cutler felt pressure, hurried his throw, and it resulted in an incompletion. Very good play.

3&8: Pass. KL is not on the play. Will allen for a touchdooooown.

Drive #4 (4:38)

1&goal: Run. KL is not on the play. No gain !

2&goal, 3&goal, KL wasn't on the play... the personnel was ferguson holliday and starks. They made a good job overrall providing devent pass rush.

Drive #5 ( 2:14)

1&10: RunRS. KL is on the RS. Very good play here. it's a stretch play and KL plays it pretty good. He fights the pressure, streams towards the sideline, disengages his blocker and makes a tackle. Notice how the ball carrier faked to run in the B gap and then bounced outside. Kendall managed to shut down that hole, react to the outside move and close in to make a tackle near the sideline, this is mind bobbling. Very good play.

2&12: Pass. KL is not on the play. shout out to phillip merling who owns the left guard and basically makes the whole play. Cutler **** in his pants and threw an incompletion.

3&12: Pass. KL is not on the play.

2nd Quarter:

Drive #6 (14:15)

1&10: Pass. Kendall is matched up one on one against the RT. He doesn't get past the guy but there's a quick release from jay's part. Kendall reacts well and jump in the air to try and tip the pass. I'll give a good play to kendall, two seconds is not enough to get to the quarterback and he did the only thing to do, put his hands in the air. Good but nearly neutral play.

2&4: Pass. Kendall makes a good first move but the oline reacts well. This is the end for langford, he doesn't try a second move, he seems kind of panicked and his pass rush goes nowhere. Kid, it'll happen often that your first move doesn't work, you have to try other stuff or else you're beat ! Bad Play !

1&10: Pass. Kendall makes a good rush here. it might not seem like it but he has a good first move on the tackle and when he's about to beat him inside the guard, who was on ferguson, blocks langford to seal the crack in the protection. I'll have to give him a good play grade.

2&10: KL is not on the play. On a sidenote, very nice play by randy starks, shedding his blocker and making a tackle. Textbook play.

3&7: KL is not on the play again.

Drive #7 (6:57)

1&10: Pass. This is a playaction on kendall's side and i can't really grade the play. Kendall "bites" on the playaction but it was a natural reaction because all the blocking scheme was making it look like one. He got good penetration upfield and made a nice effort overrall but his imput was so minimal on the play that i can't grade this.

1&10: KL is not on the field. Nice play by randy starks, he was the one who caused the intentional grounding.

2&21: KL is not on the field. Quick shoutout to ayodele who made an awesome read on the play. He read that and reacted so fast to close in on the tackle, it's pretty impressive.

3&21: Pass. very nice pass rush despite a facemask by the tackle. He almost closed in on cutler and man that would've hurt, he never saw him coming. Good play.

3rd Quarter:

Drive #8 ( 13:28)

1&10: Pass. Kendall bites to the playaction but he reacts pretty quickly. Cutler manages to get rid of the ball fast enough because hillis is wide open as soon as cutler sees him. I'll give a neutral play to kendall because he was a little overagressive but he still managed to redirect and if cutler took more time, he would've been hit by the defensive end. Neutral play.

1&10: KL is not on the play. Awesome play by joey porter who gets past a blocker and makes a tackle in the backfield.

2&13: KL is not on the play.

3&2: Pass. Kendall's assignment clearly is to shoot up the B gap, and he does a nice job doing so. Very bad play by Matt Roth. He freezed when he saw hillis come his way and stopped his pass rush, matt, trust the guys behind you and do your job, don't hesitate and run at the quarterback. Roth had a freeshot on cutler but because he hesitated, cutler had time and no difficulty completing the pass. I'll give a good play to kendall for creating that much space for Roth to have to clean shot.

1&10: KL is not on the play.

1&10: KL is not on the play.

2&10: KL is not on the play. On a sidenote, merling faces clady and kinda lost the battle. His main goal is to create space for Bell to rush, and he did just that. But the idea when creating a rushing lane is, yes, to sacrifice yourself, but you have to provide a decent pass rush anyways, try to collapse the pocket, do something. Merling tries to squeeze himself through the B gap inside clady's shoulder but the big fella just block merling towards the right side and takes him out of the play, using his momentum. Clady got the best of merling.

3&11: Pass. KL has to shoot the B gap again to create a rushing lane for the blitzing nickelback. He does an awesome job and the only reason this was not a sack is because cutler got rid of it in a second, if he held the ball any longer the nickel was there for a violent sack. KL also continued his rush unlike merling in the past play. Good play by Kendall.

1&10: KL is not on the play.

2&8: Pass. KL makes a decent bull rush on the RG. He gets a nice push and got in cutler's face, the only problem i have with this play is that he doesn't try any moves... obviously, on first down with their tendency to run the ball on this drive, you're anticipating a run block and you don't think about a pass rush move, but kendall has enough time to react and maybe put a little spice in his pass rush... i'll give a neutral play because he still got good penetration. Yeremiah, why did you drop that pick.. ahhhhh... Neutral play .

3&8: KL is not on the play.

Drive #9 (5:17)

1&10: KL is not on the play.

2&10: KL is not on the play.

3&10: Pass. KL is facing Ryan Clady. I don't quite understand why, but kendall opts for a "head fake" like i call them, which is to fake your way one way with your head and a step and bounce off that step in the other direction. Here he fakes outside and attacks inside. I really question the move because first off there was a guard inside to protect the gap, AND, there was no one outside of kendall so it was pretty dangerous because if clady pancaked kendall, cutler would've all the time in the world to throw it or run it. I understand kendall saw a little opening but you've got to be smart and respect your assignment. Maybe one positive is that he made a nice job on clady, but not nice enough. 1st down. Bad play.

1&10: KL is not on the play.

2&8: KL is not on the play.

3&6: KL is not on the play.

Drive #10 (1:26)

1&10: Pass. Nice pass rush by kendall. I'd like to see more moves from him though, he really needs to work on his hands and moves. On a sidenote, Holliday does a helluva job toasting the LG and getting in cutler's face, oh yeah, and that guy was fouled for a holding also, haha. Neutral play, because of a decent rush that missed that little something.

1&20: Pass. Quick release by jay so no real opportunity for a pass rush so i won't rate this play.

4th quarter:

1&30: KL is not on the play.

2&16: KL is not on the play.

2&25: KL is not on the play. Man, torbor had a deadful shot at cutler but the quarterback saw him just in time, he was coming from ten yards back at full speed that would've been so sweet to see not that i hate cutler but i just get chills seeing big hits

3&24: KL is not on the play. Nice pick Tyrone, i'm starting to like ya. the guy made plays in the last two games and if we start blowing out the seahawks, looks closer at him because they'll give him more snaps as the starting FS i'm pretty sure, just to see what the kid's got

Drive #11 (11:58)

1&10: Pass. OK pass rush by kendall. He tried a spin move and that's what i was looking for, ingeniosity and finesse, i hadn't seen it all game long. I'll give him a neutral play because his assigment was obviously to create a gap for channing to blitz through and he succeded, but the pass rush was not that good, better, but still not that good. Neutral play

1&10: Pass. This is a playaction and kendall reacts well. He makes sure it's not a run and then starts bulling his way in the backfield... i'll give a neutral play because once again, no moves! if he made just a slight rip move or tried to shed his man like vonnie does, he'd be a lot more successful. I have to give a neutral play here.

2&10: Pass. A swim move ! alright kendall ! pretty decent pass rush, he started off slow because there was a playaction but the reaction was quick and very good. He turned on the speeding wheels, made a nice swim and was getting close to cutler before he got rid of the ball.
Good play.

1&10: Pass. Kendall got a hard time here. he slipped a little bit because he was unblocked and got tied up in a foot. He was nowhere near cutler who booted to the right (on kendall's side) so overrall just a bad play.

Drive #12 (2:58)

1&10: KL is not on the play.

1&10: KL .....................

1&15: KL ....................

2&15: KL ....................

3&4: KL ...................

1&10: RunRS. KL is on the RS. This is a draw play and you really can't blame kendall. He wasn't on the tackle but pasqualoni asks his ends to play so far from the tackles in this dime package that it's pretty hard to put your nose on those kind of plays. I'll give a neutral play to kendall because even though it was a hard task, he could've done better. Neutral play.

2&4: Pass. Kendall makes a very good pass rush initially, he uses his hands well and gets around the tackle but he doesn't finishes the job and gets washed behind cutler by the offensive tackle. It's like a guy working on a girl in a bar, pays her a lotta drinks and drives home with her at his place only to tell the girl when they're naked that, well, he doesn't have any condoms. You have to give a neutral play to that kind of performance lol

3&4: KL is not on the play.

3&1: KL .....................

1&10: KL ...................

2&10: KL....................

3&10: KL.................... Sorry, i might be boring not working on other guys but i'm kinda tired right now lol ! and moreso, nothing really impressive is happening on the defensive front. In the last 5 plays, the pass rush has been ok but there really wasn't anything outstanding or noteworthy.

4&10: KL..................

CONCLUSION:

Kendall played 23/63 plays (36.5%)
10/23 Good plays
3/23 Bad plays
8/23 Neutral plays
2 were not rated

Well, some might think that he hasn't played as much as you'd expect. But keep in mind that denver threw the ball 40 times or so in this game. The staff is a lot more comfortable with guys like starks, holliday, merling and sometimes ferguson on passing situation and it's pretty understandable. Kendall has played the run very good, i've noted 3 good run plays and 1 neutral out of 4. The good plays were darn good ones though, plays you see probowlers make.

Kendall's pass rushing skills aren't fully develloped though. You see the potential, you see that he makes some moves a few times and beats a lineman here and there but he usually just pushes the lineman because he probably had a lot of success doing so in college. I'd be raising eyebrows and rethink about langford's potential if i didn't see those moves but you clearly see the kid is working on develloping his hands and the finesse moves. I noted 7/17 good plays on passes, 7/17 were neutral and 3 were bad. It kind of tells you how i feel about his pass rush.
Another thing you have to keep in mind is that about 50% of those passes were playactions and in those situations, it's pretty hard for a 3-4 defensive end to make an efficient pass rush. It's doable, but it's a whole lot harder.

Overrall, i'd say i was amazingly surprised by the mix of power and speed he showcased on running plays. I wasn't really disapointed by his pass rush skills though. I was expecting this. A young small school monster who steps in as a starter, you can't expect him to be perfect and i knew he played the run well. I have a lot of faith in what i've seen, i'll have to watch a little more of kendall to follow his steps in the NFL and determine how he's develloping those pass rushing skills he's working on. He convinced me he had the tools to work with and the potential of a beastly defensive end, but i'll hold judgement. Overrall ok game, i'd say a 7½/ 10, it was about what i was expecting.

Great read as always. CK definitely has competition as best poster! If only Boomer could complete our trifecta!

Thanks. Great job as usual. But I really miss the Jake Long analysis honestly. :(

Good work!
Will it be Kendall next time or a completely new Miami Dolphins player?
Anyway keep up the good work!

Great post as always and thanks for doing Langford. These posts really give me insight on how our team is progressing.

I vote for you to do Satele next because I have seen him play good one play and bad the next. Not confident in him.

excellent post on Langford...i really do believe he'll be a damn good DE for us as he learns more&gets better at the pro-level....
