I know it is not likely that we draft both of these guys with our 2 second round picks, but cane homerism aside, who would be happy with these two players? KP and Jason Allen (yes i still have hope for him) wouldmake a good tandem at safety, while Calais would be able to learn from JT (assuming he isnt traded) who is a similar player in size and style of play. I know that Calais had an off year, but considering that he is still a physical freak of nature and does have a ton of talent. I personally would be happy if we did this. The fins have been wary to dip into the UM pool after the Randal Hill and Yatil Green flops, but Vernon Carey has been a very pleasent surprise and I think it is way past time that we get back in the Cane market-What does everyone else think?

I have no hate for the "U" as being an Ohio St fan and would be more a fan of Calais than Phillips (DE is a need, Safety is not). However, I have Calais going to Jacksonville in the 1st at #26 because they lose out on JT and Phillips going to the Giants at #31 because after much research they seem to be more at need at Safety than ILB (they pass on Connor)

Im a U fan but don't think we need a S that high, and Calais I think will do best in a 43 D b/c he's not strong enough for end at 34 and not fast enough for OLB, but I think both will be solid pros for a while.

i would like kenny phillips cant eevr go wrong with a high energy defensive back from the U i mean sean taylor , ed reed, antrel rolle i think hell be pretty good.

as good as he may become - we have 9 safeties already - there are more pressing needs...

Phillips sucks. And Calais Campbell would be a 5th or 6th round pick if not for his height.. He is only looked upon so high by idiot draftniks because he's tall , not because of his play.

It's very stupid to go by just one attribute on a player when you're considering a player so high. Both players are not worth the trouble. Both are extremely overrated. Pass

None of this makes a difference either way, because we'll never be able to get the both of them. One or the other, maybe ... but not both.

Please... People are high on campbell because of the MONSTER sophmore year he had. he had a down year this year. Coming into the season he was rated by many as the #1 college nfl prospect before the canes had a horrible season.

Hes a good tackler and pass rusher. tremendous 'ceiling'.

and i don't know how the top rated saftey in this draft 'sucks'. He's got great size and speed, Ball hawk, can hit and tackle & can play corner.

Bashing two potential first round picks with invalid reasons (Or even no reasons in regards to philips and your wrong view of calais) is just dumb, At the same posistion tell me who you would pick over Philips????

campell is a top 5-6 DE prospect behind Long, gholston, merling, groves maybe.

Campbell plays lazy.
He's inconsistent and he's your classic underachiever.

I'm a Cane fan and want absolutely no part of him.
IMO he'll be out of the league or a career floater taken by coaches that think they can be the one to set him straight.

I'm not a big fan of Campbell besides the fact that he doesn't really fit the 3-4...

Phillips on the other hand would be a nice pick-up if he is there at 32...

And another thing -- I would NOT call Vernon Carey a pleasant surprise..

He's played okay lately, but he was a mid-to-high 1st round pick and I think he has not lived up to my expectations so far...

I think if we get any U players it will be Tavares Gooden. I think he fits best here compared to Campbell and Phillips really isnt a need. unless we trade or cut about 4 of our current safeties. I see alot of people having Campbell go in the 1st round. I have seen several mocks that have him going in the 2nd -4th. The report was he had a terrible combine. they said he showed up not prepared being overweight and slow. Oh well I liked him at the U though maybe he can turn it around. But as far as Safety I think if we take one we get him in the 4th at earliest in Zibikowski, Decoud, Barrett . I think that DJ Wolfe, Barber, Horton, Marcus Griffin, Silva, and Parker will be available in the late 6th or 7th rounds and can be just as effective in MIA
