John Calipari has spent the last nine years helping Memphis elbow its away into college basketball’s elite, turning away other opportunities to build the Tigers into a national power.

This time, Kentucky hopes the temptation proves to be too much.

The Wildcats received permission to talk to the highly successful Memphis coach on Monday, though the school Calipari has made a fixture in March vowed to do everything it could to keep him.

Kentucky has made Calipari the focus of their search to replace Billy Gillispie, who was dismissed last week after two years on the job.

I'll say this to UK fans:

Buyer beware.

He'll be a great hire but there is some baggage there. The UK compliance department better watch him like a hawk.
 
If I were him, I'd have stayed at Memphis..but then I don't think I could have dealt with the pressure that would come with that job.

The money is nice though.
 
I think if Cal's recruits follow him to UK..they've got a real good shot at being a top 10 team next season.
 
I know where Calipari's office is going to be, but where are they going to put Worldwide Wes's office? That scumbag will need one somewhere on campus. Maybe he can have the athletic director's office...

This is great for UK and for my team (Louisville), its throwing gasoline on a fire for us. I hear the UK internet message boards are already lit up with plenty of "stomping Louisville next year and going to the Final 4" threads. Gotta love those wacky, wacky UK fans.:lol:

Well we wouldnt be that far off .. you barely beat us this year! so its very possible we can "STOMP YOU" next year!! lol
