Keuchenburg's Super Bowl rings recovered

Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bob Kuechenberg can raise his perfect season Super Bowl ring skyward again.

Fort Lauderdale police say they recovered on Tuesday Kuechenberg's Super Bowl ring from the team's undefeated 1972 season and another ring that marked his fifth Super Bowl appearance in the 1984 season.

They were stolen during a burglary at his home about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Kuechenberg said he had gone to bed at 10:30 p.m. Monday but woke up to find the lights on in the living room and the sound of scuffling.

He called out his daughter's name and when there was no answer Kuechenberg grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen and went looking for the source of the noise.

That's when he saw a man running across his lawn.

Officers say they found Kuechenberg's two championship rings -- worth an estimated $20,000 each -- in Peterson's possession. Kuechenberg was at the scene and identified the rings as his, the police report stated.

"The important thing is no one was hurt," he said. "These are just things, including the Super Bowl rings." But Kuechenberg added he was moving the rings out of his house to a more secure location.

Kuechenberg is the only player in the history of the NFL to have five Super Bowl rings from the same team. These two rings are his favorite – the '72 Perfect Season ring and the '84 Super Bowl ring with five diamonds on it representing the franchise and his fifth trip to the Super Bowl.

This is not the first time the legendary Dolphins player has been separated from his rings. He had others that were reported missing to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office years ago.

"My first ring, the one we lost to the Cowboys [in 1971], was stolen from me and then the police found it in the bottom of a creek a year or two later," he said. "The thief was arrested and told police where he had dumped a bag of stolen items and my ring was in there."
Others were lost or stolen during several moves, he said.

How the hell do you lose Super Bowl rings? I know **** happens but I would probably have those locked away safe and sound.
