Key to the Game: Texans at Dolphins

Does anyone believe that Houston can score as quickly as the Pats did - because our D was well wore out by half time and we actually had the time of position - or near close to it... Too many missed tackles and blown assignments period. If Houston plays at that pace without error they will score quickly we will get demoralized. I don't think they are finely tuned machine in the pass game - stop the run game and make them pass - hopefully we can churn out 450 yards of Offense and 3 TDs and a FG for the win.

Its almost as illogcal to expect the offense to churn out 430 yards this week as it is to assume the defense will totally shut down Houston. I personally think Texans win by a touchdown.

I didnt get a chance to watch the Colts/Texans game. Did the Texans earn their 30 points or did the Colts give up 30 pts?

The Colts had a sack fumble inside their 20, and then a bad snap fumble also inside their 20. Texans capitalized with 14 points off of those turnovers, and a 79 punt return for a TD. So that`s 21 points that basically came on very short fields and good special teams play. The Colts didn`t do anything for about 3 and a half quarters, and the Texans stopped feeding Andre the ball in the second half. Matt Schaub had a tipped pass that went intercepted, then just a really bad pass that got intercepted but the Colts couldn`t capitalize.

EDIT: Colts scored their only points about midway through the 4th quarter when Ben Tate fumbled the ball on the Texans side of the field. In all honesty the defense came out and won the game for the Texans much more than the offense won the game.

Weird.

dlockz thinks we are going to lose. Who would have guessed that one...

What is alarming is that we had a greater offensive time of possession, and almost as many plays and yards(- the Welker TD) and we were gassed and they were not.

If we can limit Andre Johnson, I think we can win. AJ has beaten us in every game with big plays. It is time for the secondary to step up. Their running game is very good as well, a big test.

I am very interested to see if bringing Allen back will make any difference to the secondary.
Hope so.

I do think Sapp was a victim of circumstances.

Not saying they guy was a great player but the entire defense as a whole was a disappointment, he just happened to be the guy that got burned on a really big play and they clearly wanted to make an example out of somebody. They did the same thing last season over the special teams melt-down before finally firing the special teams coach.

I guess if they guy were smart he would have cramped up and layed low on the sidelines and let somebody else take the fall.

Hope we can pull out this win. Don't want to be down 0-2.

If anyone knows of any Dolphins bars near UCF where dolphin fans go to, please let me know!!

The Hideaway Bar in downtown. Just google "miami dolphins bar orlando fl"

True but it is still more effective if the coordinator is on the sidelines. The Steelers for example have leaders all over that defense but you still see Dick Lebeau on the sidelines every game.

Angry Birds.. HA.. Good one.
If you have strong leaders like a Ray Lewis they can be upstairs.
We don't (yet).
Dabol was right in the middle of things. Nolan was playing angry birds or something.
He should be in someones face if they blow a coverage.

It's possible, just by virtue of the better communication. Will Allen is more experienced and more of a leader. He can help get everyone lined up on time and there were definitely passes that Tom Brady threw that were complete because people didn't get lined up on time.

I could see the Texans kind of fooling themselves into thinking they don't need to go the same hurry-up approach against us that the Pats did, they can pass against us normally. If they try it, I could see them kind of dipping their toe in the water a little and not fully committing. That could be edge enough for us to end up winning.

But the Browns, **** I don't think they're too proud. I think they'd work all week on it and be like yeah we're going to run a constant hurry up on you and tire you out because we don't think you're very well conditioned.

We've yet to ever beat the Texans.....I doubt that changes this weekend.

Great analysis ckparrothead!

Defense definitely needs to show up if we want to have any chance of winning. Lets hope they do.

We NEED to beat the Texans if we want to keep pace for a Wildcard spot.

I think the Texans will do what they do best and not follow NE's lead. The Texans like to run the ball with Foster and then hit big plays to the TE and Andre Johnson. I do not believe they will deviate from their identity just to game plan against us.
Cleveland has not established an identity yet, so I agree that they might use the no huddle hurry up at times during the game, especially if they fall behind.

Wishful thinking on my part to think the Dolphins would win this game.

But I did think several of the issues I raised definitely reared their head. I said I couldn't speak of a "key" for the Special Teams because that seems like a lost cause and I can't think of anything to fix it, and that if the Texans win this game by a margin then I expect special teams became an issue. Well, special teams were a hell of an issue.

Glover Quin was a big problem today. And the Dolphins never isolated him in man coverage.

They DID manage to isolate Brandon Marshall on Jason Allen, which produced their only touchdown on the day as the Beast ripped JA to shreds.

A lot of the running success was exactly what I hoped, using formation shifts to manipulate how the Texans play their strong side/weak side personnel, then taking advantage of better run blocking on the left side of the line. The other thing they did was, as I hoped, not run plays that didn't make sense into numbers mismatches...making the necessary calls at the line to get us into better plays.

I thought the team did really well when it passed on the Texans' base package, and did more poorly when the Texans brought out their nickel.

The most concerning aspect of this team is its tendency to fade at the end, not finish out games. That's big. That happened a lot in 2007. Early in the season, you couldn't necessarily tell that this was a team that was about to go 1-15. But they showed many of the same issues that this team has shown.

When I've criticized most of the moves this regime made in the off season, I think a lot of people kind of naively just pinned it all on the QB situation, as if I'm unhappy with whatever the Dolphins do JUST because I disagree with how they've handled the QB situation. I've said many times though that in many ways the QB situation is a lost cause, there were no perfect answers there. The best they could have done was try and set themselves up for the future, while doing some things that might have eeked out a bare few more wins in the present than otherwise would happen. In reality I criticized all these moves, including negligence at the safety position, negligence at pass rusher, negligence on the offensive line, negligence at tailback, negligence at tight end and negligence with the coaching staff...because the Dolphins were putting themselves on track for a disaster this year. That's the bottom line.

As I've said many times, that 'give up' attitude we saw in Week 17 of last year...we could see that more along the lines of Week 7 this year. That's the week I'm watching out for it, because if we start out 1-3 heading into the bye, then lose that Jets game coming out of the bye, and come back home to play the Broncos on a day Stephen Ross has pegged for honoring Tim Tebow (the Bronco) and the other Florida Gators for how awesome THEY were (in stark contrast to how bad WE are), then this team, its fans, everyone could go into full revolt. The Broncos game is a game we should be able to win, or at the very least be competitive in, but I wonder if the team will just not show up at all, like in Week 17 of 2010.
