Great win. BUT-

With a minute left I thought we were probably going to lose and if I had to bet at that moment it would have been hard to bet against the Pats.

I did not think that we should have settled for a field goal with a minute left by running it on third down. Henne was throwing it well. Roll him out or something and give him the run/pass option. Let Henne WIN the game by picking up a first and enabling us to run the clock all the way down before kicking it. Control your own destiny.

If we can't hold that lead we don't deserve to win. I don't mind the idea of throwing it there, although I hate the roll out play. It wasn't a horrible call we made them use a timeout and could have busted for a first down too. Throwing is scary especially with all the tipped balls ect. that have happened and could have happened.

It's not like Ricky wasn't capable of getting a first down on that play. I agree with letting ricky run it and kill NE's timeouts as well as some clock rather than letting the rookie qb throw it and possibly have the ball tipped at the line or snagged by a defender on a freak play resulting in a loss. The run was the smart play although I can see where you're coming from because a play action play probably would have got the phins a first down but you run the risk of a freak play with the ball in the air.

I guess that is why I said rollout, avoid tips get a clear throwing lane. If nothing is there run and stay in-bounds if you can otherwise throw it away as a last resort.

The big point was playing to win, not playing to avoid losing (interception). Henne had been playing great, give him the chance to really ice the game.

There is room for hindsight in any direction you go with this. Your thinking is understandable yeah we could have blown the lead... BUT we didn't and therefore the decision made was the right one. It resulted in a Fin win and Giselle (sp?) was left crying on the field!!!

I doesn't seem like hindsight it seems like a pattern because we have been in this position before - a chance to seal a victory and it seems our coach always chooses against being aggressive.

I'm happy it worked out, but I still think it is 50/50 that we win that game give that senario.

Ok lets say we pass it. And like I said I don't hate this call. What could have happened? Well there is the obvious, but what I would be more worried about is the incompletion. We are further away for a kick that is needed to win, and we did not make them use a timeout, which could have resulted in them having what would equate to another 30 second of game clock.

So that is the question - what do you fear more? I fear the Patriots having the ball and being able to win against our D that is anything but big in 4th quarters. I wanted Henne to win the game, not rely on our pass defense against Brady/Welker/Moss. I wanted to play to win.

I want to win too, and we did... My Bottom line is we won and what we did worked. If we would have lost because we can't hold a division rival that is only one game ahead of us in the standings, while we are at home, with somewhere around Minute left on the clock, and no timeouts. I would tip my hat to them and say we are not good enough and we don't deserve to win this game and be in contention for the playoffs.

Instead the team proved that they deserve to be in playoff contention. Good teams win those games no matter the way they chose to finish it.

The only way we can judge this decision is by its result. If we would have passed and won it would of been a good decision. If we ran/passed and lost it would have been a bad decision.

So you think they were playing to lose and just got lucky? :chuckle:

BTW - This is exactly the thinking that cost the Pats not one loss but TWO losses this year.

I had little faith in the defense at that point. That screen on the first play by the Pats was a great call.

i didnt mind the playcall. it was 3rd and 5 and with ricky i was saying hoepfully he can get the 1st down in a manageable 3rd down, but if he didnt, then new england uses its final timeout. so figure that leaves the pats with 100 left with 0 timeouts, so they couldnt use the middle of the field rlly.

ill admit though when brady threw that deep pass to aiken, i got rlly nervous and he had it in his hands for a moment. if we wouldve lost this board would be on suicide watch.

you absolutely run it in that situation force them to burn there T.O and put it on the defense

Speaking of roll out... is anyone else getting nervous when Henne rolls out? They've been running that play a lot and it seems like it's only a matter of time before a team wises up to it and picks it off or they use it at the end of a game down by a score on 4th down and the team expects it and causes an incompletion.
