Anyone know for certain Kiko Alonzo's contract status?

I've seen it posted that he is in the final year of his rookie deal.

Also seen it posted that the Dolphins added another year at ~$900K+

Which is it? :idk:

He was going to be a RFA following the season, so naturally we extended his contract even though he was essentially already under team control. See sig.

Considering the extension was for a small amount of money, it was actually a good move - for once.

that's a great position because then if he did well and we needed to pay up for another year you could in effect have the same critique

Kiko was never extended . . . this was misreported by of course the Sun-Sentinel and Dave Hyde.

However because he missed the 2014 season, he will have only accrued 3 seasons after the year making him a RFA at the end of the season. Meaning we can tender him at the first or second round level and receive a matching draft pick if a team decides to match.

Hyde later corrected his report and said he was talking about the RFA status.

Never made sense to sign him to an extension or for him to take one at the "reported" money.

It was a 2.8 million deal for the next two years....giving him a raise of about a half mil. From his original deal's last year.

After reading this entire post I still have no idea what the truth is.

@OmarKelly @sportsfan359 Kiko has 1 yr remaining on rookie deal. He did NOT restructure his contract in any way.

This is Kiko's agent in response to the erroneous reporting of Omar Kelly and the Sun Sentinel.

 So, once again, The Great & Powerful Omar proves that he's an ass.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

So if we really only have Kiko for this year that trade looks even worse. If he's good we have to give him big money. If he sucks, then he was worthless anyways. We aren't making a superbowl run that we need him for a one-year rental. I don't get how our FO office people actually have a job.

While the agent is correct in that his initial contract signed when he was drafted has only 1 year left, he missed the 2014 season with a non-football injury and did not accrue a season towards free agency. Thus upon completion of his rookie contract after this year, he will only have accrued 3 seasons and will be a restricted free agent instead of an unrestricted one.
