Hi All
So, things have been slow going on here, and that being the case, I thought maybe we could reminisce until the draft gets closer and the present is back in the headlights. I was telling my son not too long ago about the pain and disappointment involved in sports, and how that can contrast with the highs of winning. Long story short, I started running down a list of Dolphins' games that took me an eternity to get over, and I thought I'd start a thread- name your top 3 most painful Dolphins' games and the top 3 Dolphins games that brought you the biggest rush/high. Mine are:
MOST PAINFUL:
Super Bowl 17 loss to Redskins. When leading 17-13 Theisman stripped that pick 6 from Bokamper...
1994 Season: Playoff loss in San Diego after leading 21-0/21-3 at halftime.
2002 Season finale in New England: 4:59 to go leading 24-13 Jamar Fletcher is called for PI and the entire game unravels, costing us a division championship. I've never seen a game come apart like that in my life. It was so bad it looked like entire team was reminded at the last second that they had been paid to throw the game and had forgotten to do so.
BIGGEST RUSH:
1982 AFC CHAMPIONSHIP vs Jets: Duhe intercepts Richard Todd and returns it for a TD, Miami goes up 14-0 against a hated rival.
2000 AFC Wildcard: Lamar Smith carries defenders vs Colts into the End zone in overtime to win an unbelievable comeback.
1984 Playoffs vs Seattle and Pittsburgh: I'm lumping these two together, because Marino destroyed both teams on the way to the Super Bowl.
(Honorable Mention: 1982 playoff vs San Diego: We get revenge on Fouts and Winslow one season after the loss in Miami, that incredible hook and lateral game)

I became a fan in 1975, so I didn't see Super Bowls 7 and 8 live.
Looking forward to hearing other people's games.

wow.. deja vu.. i became a fan in 1974 and my 3 disappointments are exactly yours. one additional rush was when they beat the jets in the last game of the season to clinch the playoffs with pennington

No mention of the beat down at Jacksonville 62-10.
What about the loss at home to the Pats to play the Bears in the superbowl or the loss to the Bills at home in 92 to play the Cowboys in the superbowl?

48 yrd field goal miss. ONLY our electricity (suspicious? cheating?) going out in our locker room, in the entire stadium, at half time so we couldn't make adjustments. Playoffs. Don Shula RAGES over this any and every time he is asked to this day.

What game am I referring to?

62-7. Even worse.

By far the worst day ever for me as a sports fan. I believe I remember the spread in the game was 7 points and I bet a few bucks on the Dolphins. I could careless about the money to see my hero go out like that still makes me sick.

This might be my worst moment because in my heart I truly knew it was Marino's last shot at a Super Bowl. I was riding snowmobiles that day and by the time we rode 20 miles on the trails and stopped at the first bar, I rushed in to check the game.............it was already over and it was only the end of the first quarter (24-0).

How early was the draft a few years ago? The draft feels like its getting later and later in the year. NFL trying to steal viewers from NHL playoffs? haha

1995 playoff lose to San Diego

Stoyanovich misses 48-yard field goal, San Diego earns a 22-21 victory over the Miami Dolphins

That was our last real shot at winning the Super Bowl, imo. And I believe Dan Marino would have done it with that team that year. Kudos.

yeah that stoyanivich miss hurt. i vaguely remember on 3rd down Marino took a deep shot downfield, incomplete, and we miss the FG. i always felt we should have run the ball on 3rd down to move it closer.. rotten call, unless of course it worked.. lol

another painful loss was the kellen winslow charger game with the hook and lateral. down 24-0 i think and came all the way back and uwe von schaman misses a fg in OT

Biggest Rush
October 14, 2002, Miami 24 Denver 22. Probably one of the great games I've ever watched from beginning to end. It was a true heavy weight fight. Fiedler was the man that night.
Lamar Smith carrying the team to victory against the Colts.
Ricky Williams back-to-back 200 yard games

Most Painful
Jacksonville playoff loss
Losing to Buffalo with Ricky rushing for over 200 yards
Picking Ted Ginn, Jr

From the perceptions of a 27 year old

Most painful

Jets Monday Night Miracle
Marino's last game against Jacksonville
Patriots week 17 2002 meltdown
Steelers ref debacle (Roethlisberger goal line fumble). Still one of the worst calls I've ever seen.

Biggest Rush

Wildcat game against the Patriots
Buffalo comeback where Chris Chambers went off
Colts playoff game where Lamar Smith went off
Broncos Sunday night game where Olindo Mare hit the GW field goal
Beating the Jets and Favre in the Meadowlands to win the Division

Just realized you asked for only 3, but it was hard to decipher.

I'm a younger fan - been only following since 2004, so my "rushes" and "painful moments" pale in comparison to the lifers among us.
Regardless:

Best Moments
  • 2005 vs Buffalo, Chris Chambers 200 yard game, game winning TD with 11 seconds remaining after being down by 17 in 4th quarter
  • 2007 vs Ravens, Greg Camarillo saves the winless season
  • 2015 vs Houston, attended the game, watched the best half of Dolphins football I had ever seen

Worst Moments
  • 2009 vs Indianapolis, Monday Night game, attended the game, Indy held the ball for about 15 minutes but Peyton Manning shredded the defense and beat the Dolphins on quick, long TD passes
  • 2009 vs New Orleans, attended the game, race out to huge early lead only for New Orleans to score 40+ in the second half, first real doubts of Sparano & Parcells regime begin to bubble up
  • 2013 @ New Orleans, Monday Night game, undefeated Dolphins riding high into the Superdome and get absolutely shellacked by a superior opponent. Dolphins would end up losing 4 straight after that, and it became the usual routine for the Philbin-led Dolphins

Best Moments
Super Bowl VII (no explanation needed)
Super Bowl VIII (no explanation needed)
2000 victory over Cincinnati 31-16. Took my daughter to her first NFL football game and the Dolphins won. Last fall I called into Sirius NFL Radio and talked to Jason Taylor about the game and what it meant to me and my daughter. Here is a youtube of the call that I saved for my daughter. My daughter was very happy when I shared the call with her.

Worst Moments
1974 Sea of Hands loss to Raiders that ended a dynasty.
Super Bowl XIX, The loss to the 49ers would be the last time we sniffed the Super Bowl for over 20 years.
2002 season finale loss to Patriots. Thought we had a really good chance that year.
