It's news only in a German newspaper at the moment, but here's the link (to the tabloid Bild):

http://www.bild.t-online.de/BTO/spo...nsmann-hammer-nein/klinsmann-hammer-nein.html

Here's a quote:

"Ganz Deutschland hat es sich gewünscht. Alle Größen des deutschen Fußballs haben ihn gebeten, weiterzumachen.

VERGEBLICH! Jürgen Klinsmann (41) beendet nach zwei Jahren seinen Job als Bundestrainer. Geht zurück in die USA, zurück zu seiner Familie!"

TRANSLATION: All of Germany wished for it. All the greats of German football begged him to continue. All in vain! Jürgen Klinsmann (41) quits his job after 2 years as Germany's coach. (He) goes back to the USA, back to his family!

So, I guess the wife won
Now, it's up to the US to nab him. We're really the only other realistic candidate anyway.

EDIT: Now, it's also on BBC:

Just read it here: http://www.rp-online.de/public/article/nachrichten/fussball/nationalteam/wm2006/news_aktuell/342709

Doesn't surprise me at all....he took a lot of crap.

Reasons given:

- family
- doesn't want to move to germany
- past tensions between officials and him

I wish him good luck. If he takes over the US squad I am happy too. Maybe he can teach them soccer and passion instead of arrogance a la Bruce Arena.

If Loew continues in Germany they will be fine and the course they took they will stay on.

What a nice match up in 2010: Loew vs Klinsi ... and FFiB will be a winner..no matter what.

:sidelol:

Yeah, it's all over the place now. I really hope Gulati moves quickly to get this guy. Well, we'll see.

If only Klinsmann could play striker, midfield, defense and goal keeper, the USA might win a game.

Hopefully we sign him ASAP If that is the case. I wonder who Klinsmann would call up and not call up anymore. It'd be interesting to say the least.

Judging by what he did with Germany, and given the fact we have 4 years till the next Cup, he'll probably begin with inserting a lot of the promising young guys that just missed the team: Adu, Spector, Wynne, Feilhaber are probably the first 4.

Anyway, all this is useless speculation until he becomes coach.

Much Adu about nothing.

Little boy is still too small to play a mans game.

He is a boy. Wait until he gets older...then we can judge.

according to his press conference he will not take any job for the next 6 months. He wants to take time off and spend time with his familie. The last 2 years drained him physically and emotionally.

11:35 "Ich habe viel Kraft gelassen und hätte nicht mehr die Kraft gehabt, weiter zu machen."

"I have used a lot of energy und would not have had the energy to continue"

11:36 Klinsmann will nun ein halbes Jahr Urlaub machen und "keineswegs irgendetwas anderes annehmen".

Klinsmann will now vacation for 6 months and "under no circumstances do anything else".

If indeed we're going to pursue Klinsmann (oh please, oh please, oh please...), I hope Gulati has the decency to let Arena go right away, instead of letting him twist in the wind. The man's earned that much.

The flip side of this is why he may have said 6 months and not 1 year or so. Bruce Arena's contract expires at the end of this year, or in 6 months!!

Was that a coincidence?

It's entirely possible Klinsmann will accept the US job only after Arena leaves (they are both good friends too). Arena is on the verge of being offered the NY Red Bulls coaching job in MLS, but the question is whether that is for the remainder of this season or for next year (MLS starts in March).

If it's for next year, we just may see Arena hang on as interim US coach with the understanding Klinsmann takes over then. Well, again we'll see, but that 6 months thing may not just be coincidence.

I'm glad Klinssman left, they didn't give him a chance at all. I mean we all know he was gonna get fired after the World Cup anyways, but since he did the unthinkable, he was a hero to the whole country . . and still, after he lost the game with Italy, after all the success, he still got crap, people complaing that his 10000 dollar flights from long beach to germany have to be cut and asking him why he has so many trainers. Do they know how mucn money that man has helped them make? Yo I tried to buy a Poldolski jersey over there, forget about it, only thing u could buy was flags lol, thats it. Klinsman is in a good spot. He has a extremely beautiful wife, a nice hideaway in Long Beach and holds all the cards to bring up a program for the U.S. . . however they need to keep Arena on the staff tho, he needs to scout all the young talent and develop them, because he is good for that . . I mean I doubt he does that, but would be ideal. Klinsman learned from the U.S. . . he uses trainers from the US navy seals and NFL trainers to get the Germans in shape for the World Cup, he will get us to the next level here in the states.
