In an interview with Klinsmann (after the Italy game) was this question asked:

Q: Franz beckenbauer desires for you to remain Headcoach. Also your popularity with the fans increased throughout the tournament. Will you stay?

Klinsmann: I don't know yet and at the moment I am not wasting a thought about it. After such a tournament, you have to search for your inner self and let everything pass by. A lot has happened the last two years, you have to let this sink in. For the last two years, I put my entire energy into it and always thought of the final. Regardless I am happy now that finally the respect and acceptanmce has arrived. In the next few days I will talk to my wife and my family and eventually I will make a decision.
I already asked Dr. Zwanziger and Mr Mayer-Vorfelder (the presidents of the soccer association) for time to think it over.

Note from me: The German soccer association (DFB) is currently debating a proposal of a 2, possibly 4 year contract for Klinsmann.

Good job finding the info FFiB!!

Anyway, the wife and family is the wildcard. She's American and they live right next to the Home Depot Center - the training center for the US team - so hopefully that influences his mind towards the US.

Thing is, losing in the semifinal really helps Germany retain Klinsmann if they want to. Klinsmann hasn't achieved the pinnacle in coaching because of this and he may try for the Euro Championship.

Also, he may think that US Soccer will not offer a 4-year contract to the next coach, meaning he could still be considered for it 2 years later. Well, we will see.

FAZ, a leading German newspaper, has articles/commentaries on Klinsmann and they are full of praise for him. I won't go to the trouble of translating the stuff since there's too much to translate, but this definitely makes whatever chances Germany has of keeping him higher.

Klinsmann as USA HC would be an amazing acquisition.....however, I wonder if he really accepts an offer by USA. Does he think the USA is close or still several WC's away from being able to make it to the semi's even?

Klinsmann's response could tell an awful lot about USA chances and expectations.

Yeah but he lives in the U.S. and If he could turn it around, he will have proven that he is the Real Deal.

Assuming he accepts I agree.....but if he turns it down, it could speak volumes in the other direction.

Just give him a bag of cash already. Enough of this already.

I would be absolutely giddy with him being here.

Come on...who needs that crap that the German media dishes out?
