Kevin McHale didn't want to discuss the hypothetical, but it was asked of him, anyway. What if Stephon Marbury was more amenable to the cold Minnesota weather - among other things - and played out his career next to Kevin Garnett with the Timberwolves?

"No one knows what would have happened," said McHale, the T-Wolves vice president of basketball operations. "He's a good guy. I've always wished him the best. I've always personally really liked Steph. Your paths go in different directions sometimes. I wish that it had been different. But it wasn't."

As a result, Marbury went from one of McHale's promising cornerstone pieces along with Garnett 10 years ago to drawing the most criticism as the cause of the Knicks' struggles today. He is the unwitting target of Garden fans on a nightly basis and part of a backcourt with Steve Francis that now apparently has Isiah Thomas frustrated. Thomas benched Marbury and Francis early in the third quarter of Monday's 97-90 loss to the Houston Rockets after the two had turnovers on the first two possessions of the half.

Who would even care at all about Minnesota basketball if not for KG? I mean they might as well move the franchise if he leaves.

...be careful the last team to leave Minnesota turned out pretty good....

As much as I would love the Knicks to get Garnett, "it aint goin to happen".

First off, the TWolves aren't going to just hand him over to NY, they would want Frye, Robinson, Lee and more than likely Crawford in any deal. Second, there would be other teams in the running that could possibly give the TWolves more (Chicago) so even if the Knicks were willing to include all of those players that doesn't mean they would get him. :( Third, Isiah made a serious boner when he traded an unprotected 1st to Chicago for Eddy Curry along with the right to swap 1st rounders this year, so even if the Knicks suck this year the pick may not be reflective of that.

Who, knows maybe Isiah can find a way to pull a rabbit out of his hat, unfortunately for us Knicks fans that rabbit may turn out to be a skunk. :rolleyes2

Yeah I read this headline with hope but then thought, YEAH RIGHT!! No way any team wants any of our huge contracts for the overpaid players Ike has now, and I in no form or fashion want to get rid of our promising young guys. It ain't worth it to have Garnett for like what 3 yrs then he leaves?? No thanks.

I'm sure the Knicks will end up with KG....it'll happen as soon as he turns 35 years old and is recovering from a torn ACL while collecting over $20 million a year.

Word.

kg to the knicks isnt quite as impossible as we all think, especially if the knicks could end up with the 1st pick in the draft to get greg oden, minnesota has been looking to get younger, and oden is a monster

what a waste of special talent. well never get to see how good Garnett really is as long as he is in Minnesota. trade him anywhere that will get him to the playoffs so we can see this genetical freak unleash his true talent in the biggest stage of all

KG at the garden would just be sick and could be just what the knicks need, to have a dominant player like KG who plays hard and agressive is exactly what NY doesnt have, curry is massive but doesnt use his size effectively and a deal that would send marbury packing would leave two point guards in francis and nate and crawford at sg......by late season the knicks starting line up could like like Eddy Curry at C, Kg at PF, Jarred Jeffries at SF, Q at SG, Francis @ PG.....i know this is not too likely but what a line up that would be

That would be the end of his career. I rather him stay in Minnesota. I atleast want him to have a chance a title. Bulls or Lakers are a possiblty.
