Knowshon Moreno

Moreno is one of those guys who doesn't have the size or speed that everyone wants...but he always has played the game with heart. In this day and age with the big contracts its tougher and tougher to find a RB like Moreno that seems to leave every ounce of energy on the field. I hope he can stay healthy as that has been his downfall. Just give him the damn ball.

The guy was drafted in the first round, I don't remember too many criticisms about his size and speed. That he was in the league for a while and hadn't established himself due to injuries and ineffectiveness, I do remember, but he turned things around when given the opportunity last year and there's no denying his motor.

Where are these big contracts that running backs are supposedly getting?

Even when KM had a career season last year everyone credited those numbers to Manning. I think after today everyone can see how much of a power back DT was not. Great game KM.

The only one who deserves to be compared to Lamar Smith is Daniel Thomas. One decent playoff game shouldn't mask the fact that this guy was about the absolute worst player at his position in the league in 2001.

What? Am I understanding this right? Are you bashing Lamar Smith? He was pretty solid during his time in Miami.

In 2000 Lamar Smith had a pretty good year (over 1000 yards) and a "good" playoff game. Kinda harsh to compare him to Daniel Thomas who never came close to 1000 yards in any season. Let's not forget, Moreno has only played one game for us. Let's see where he is at the end of the year.

Should we be concerned with his durability. Surely we can't hitch our wagon to him, his playing history clearly indicated that he is not durable over a 16-game season. Tanny has to lead and KM has to compliment. Having said that, tremendous effort today, he clearly was the difference maker.

He is exactly what I want in a RB. He never gives up, has excellent vision, follows blocks. And just makes plays and keeps his legs churning. He was so much fun to watch today.

He averaged 3.1 ypc his last year starting for us which is the one in watch I got to watch him. Sorry, but that is flat out terrible, and that we were dumb enough to keep handing the ball to him 313 times that year is on us. I don't know how many RB's with a YPC that low have ever gotten 300 carries, but I'm sure that list is very, very small. Let it be remembered that the same staff who handed the ball to him 300 times that year is also blamed currently by many to be the ruination of our franchise.

It could be argued that Wannstache ran him into the ground.

Daniel Thomas never even got 1/2 the carries that Lamar Smith did, and Smith played for the only coach in the league who would give over 300 carries to a guy averaging 3.1 ypc. If Daniel Thomas of last year was playing for Wannstadt, he certainly would have gotten 1,000 yards too. Lamar Smith's average game with us was 21 for 68 yards. In games where Daniel Thomas got at least 15 carries, he average 63 yards, this despite only getting 20 or more carries a single time in his career (in most of these games he had 15-17 carries). Lamar Smith's median game (probably a better measure for us since it lessens outliers) was around 20 carries for 50 yards, a 2.5 yard average. That means in a Dolphins uniform we could hand Lamar Smith more carries than Daniel Thomas got all but one time in his career and he could be expected to get a mere 50 yards, the amount that Lamar Miller got on less than ten carries today.

Daniel Thomas could have been as effective as Lamar Smith, he just didn't have a staff that was willing to give him the bulk which was the only way Lamar Smith achieved results. Smith was definitely solid in 2000, but 2001 he was pure unmitigated terrible and the team was too stupid to stop giving him the ball. Daniel Thomas could have achieved the same results, but most rejoiced when a 3 YPC back like him was cut.

Certainly Wannstadt was a double-edged sword for running backs, but he was also the only way that a middling journeyman RB who had been in the league six years without significant achievement like Lamar Smith could be 1,000 yard back.

Moreno was very fun to watch. His second effort to get through the defense was insane.

oh, how the tides change.

Very good rb, miles ahead of anything we've had at that position for the last couple of years.
but I thought peyton was the reason he was good?
