Koa Misi may be man without position with Miami Dolphins

My bad I watched a different video that had 2010 mixed in, I see your point when Koa Misi played your right he did face LT's. You have to admit even the video message stated due to Koa Misi being handled by the LT he made teams double and sometimes triple team (chip block) Cameron Wake. Its not like Cameron Wake was 1 on 1 with the RT, so there isn't much of an advantage that you speak of outside of him simply being a beast.

Do you honestly think if he (Wake) is 1 on 1 with any Tackle 7 - 10 times he wouldn't abuse that Tackle no matter which side they lined up on? Rushing from the QB's blind side is an advantage IMO, not getting doubled teamed.

In a 4-3 defense Cameron will be the RDE IMO facing up against the LT, this for most teams is the weak side run.

Running behind you LT with no TE next to him means your bringing a lead blocker to fill that void in power run plays. If they line up a TE next to the LT the strongside linebacker would adjust over to that side to anticipate a strong side run.

I dont disagree that he could be a RDE..But you have to line him up wide. He may have to play 8 or 9 tech.. This puts alot of pressure on your weak side backer..Alot. If you line him up at 6 or 7 he is going to get destroyed in all phases by most of the Lt's in the league..He is just too small and will have to defeat blockers rather than just run by them..Thats not Wake's game.. You also are playing a 43 over which would that put Koa on the Los but you need a NT too...Randy could be that guy but that puts stress on him.

IMO the switch in defense is more about the "Base" front, instead of starting out in a 3-4 front when opposing offenses come out in their "base" offensive formation we will show a 4-3 front.

The pros and cons of a 3-4 front - 3 hefty lineman to impact running lanes and take up double teams to open up blitzing lanes for the 4 LB's. If those 4 LB's cant shoot the gaps effectively and squeeze by occupied blocks the effectiveness is hindered leaving our secondary vulerable in extended coverage.

Side note - the LB's won't always be blitzing, the defensive call may have 2 or even 3 Lb's back in coverage or vise versa coming with pressure.

The pros and cons of a 4-3 front - 2 hefty DT's to impact middle running lanes and collapse the pocket right up the middle forcing the QB/RB to change direction to the outside. This would allow the DE's and OLB's to clean up and leave our MLB clean to roam and attack any and everything. If the front 7 (DL and LB's) don't create pressure or disrupt the offense it leaves our secondary vulnerable in extended coverage.

Side note - the 4-3 front requires more agressive run support out of your 3 LB's due to the DE's primarly taking a wide pass rush angle, in most case's this stress more support from the SS leaving the FS to roam deep thirds. The Strong side OLB will always line up over the TE, if the RDE is left 1 on 1 with the LT he should be able to impact the LT and allow the weak side OLB and MLB enough time to flow to the play and clean up. The RDE responsibility is to keep the play INSIDE where his help will flow to and take care of the play, not stop the run.

If he's stout against the run and he can drop back and cover, maybe he can play MLB in a 4-3 scheme. The Steelers converted Timmons that way. Misi has a high motor and is physical. He could have some success as a middle blitzer since he doesn't have the fast twitch 1st step or the body lean to be an edge rusher

Miami pretty much blew it in that draft. I like Odrick and all, but the DLine depth was something we did not need to add to and to get a non pass rushing OLB was a mistake.

Koa offers some versatility though and unless you are getting decent value in return (which I doubt) you are better served holding on to him. He has a high motor and with some work in the weight room and if he sheds a few pounds he could play LB in a 4-3.
This though I guess Odrick may very well be starting since we might lose Langford and Soliai.

I think Odrick is solid but he's not Graham or Gronkowski. And sorry if you can go to the Super Bowl with the 31st ranked defense then you have to make offense priority. It's a passing league, our defense is solid regardless. Now let's focus on making our offense a Top offense.

We got some pieces, we need a couple tight ends and we need Daniel Thomas to develop. Most importantly, we need a ****ing quarterback.

Hindsight is 20/20. It was reported earlier in the week that Gronkowski failed a physical with the Colts during the pre draft process. Its possible that more than one team took him off their draft board. He apparently had a serious back injury. He's only in his second yr and who's to say that doesn't become a nagging problem if he re-injures it in the next couple of yrs.

Misi isn't without a position. His position is SLB. What we have is a position without a man, the LDE.

Agreed, it was reported that the Lions wanted to draft Misi and make him the SLB in their 4-3 when he was coming out of college.

misi if we are going 43 should absolutely get some looks at lb...he played a goalline like lb roll a few times this season for us and shot the gap to make a few text book tackles on the inside...i'd be giving him reps at lb in camp and this offseason...asking misi to win against tackles in this league given his average tools and the fact that everyone and their mother is sitting on his bullrush at this point is just not gonna happen...guy was overdrafted frankly if we were expecting the guy to make an impact as a pass rusher at olb given his limited rush arsenal and average tools...never use a top 50 pick on a pass rush position player that doesn't have high end rush tools...

i think if you plan on using misi in a 43 at de you damn well better do it sparingly...very package specific and what that package is i'm not really sure...if its 43 glaring hole for us is like walrus has said lde...a 3 down player for that spot is not on the roster

one thing i will say though is odrick played some end in 4 man fronts and had some success for us as a pass rusher...i liked his upside out there more than langford when he would get run at end in those 4 man rush looks...but the thing about odrick is if you lose solia and langford odricks a must 43 dt interior rush player or you have a 43 dt hole you must fill...and i'm not sure i want to see odrick at end in a 43 every snap...i think he's a much better interior quickness and hand use off the snap penetration player

and like i said before and i'm sayin it again now if its a hybrid d and we are gonna run some 34 looks if we lose solia in free agency i'm looking hard at taamu from uw with that high 2nd round pick should he get to me...he's more ready right now to contribute than solia was when he came out and imo a 1st round grade talent likely that you can get in the 2nd round...taamu is quite talented and while i don't think he'd be solia from the jump i think in 2 years he'd be one of the legit noses in the league

and you can't run a high end level 34 without a nose that puts in work...a man in the middle

It would be insanity to lose Soliai and still want to run a 3-4. You lose him, the decision's made. You're running a 4-3.

If you decide you want to run a 3-4 or a multiple defense then you pay Soliai what he wants and that's the end of it. Restructure Jake Long. Restructure whoever.
