The title of this thread may seem a bit shocking after the rollercoaster ride we've all been through this past week, but if not for their stubborn tenacity and flexibility, the Dolphins would be riding the same bus as the Redskins. Not a pleasant ride.

As it stands, it has become evident that Upshaw is trying to redeem himself, particularly his image as a soft negotiator, and Tagliabue sees this moment as defining to his legacy as Commissioner. Both are playing the game, but neither want to drive the NFL into the same ditch as other team sports, particularly major league baseball. If they aren't successful, Tags will have stained his remarkable tenure as one of the most successful commissioners of any sport and Upshaw will be burned in effigy by the players.

This game of chicken, played by Upshaw and Tagliabue, may be the only hope of bringing together 32 of the largest egos in America, the NFL owners. The owners are surely wearing down and are now standing in the spotlight as the villians...the guys who will ruin the NFL as we know it. Believe me, their reps are far more important to them than their wallets. They've all been rich for a long time, they do not like being embarrassed and villified.

I personally don't care if they keep extending the talks until the draft. Whatever it takes to bring the fat cat owners to their knees and get the contract signed. I have thrown more than one dart at Upshaw this past week, but in the end, I think Upshaw (and his buddy Tags) want this done.

However long it takes.

I think Upshaw is greedy and wants to get rid of the cap!

It's all about Union vs. Management. Unions want everything they can get. Mgmt want to give as little as possible.

Yeah, he's a real greedy SOB. The football owners only make more than twice as much as the next bunch of owners do as a group.

thats one conflict.

other conflict is super rich owners vs the smaller market owners.

two conflicts here.

I aint giving kudos to either one until or unless they settle the CBA and soon.

Mort makes it sound like they have an agreement that the owners just need to ratify on Tuesday.

I dont know much about the situation, as I'm sure most of you dont, but I'm still surprised how gracefully people show their ignorance. I for one do not want to see a lockout or the 2008 season go uncapped. At the same time I believe what Gene Uphshaw is doing is something that should have been done years ago.

Owners and "management" make all the profit and collect all the revenue. These rich owners can't even agree with sharing amongst themselves, let alone with the players, whom make all this possible. If you look at the leagues that dont have a cap it's the same scenario, but the owners "award" any player they wish with asstronomical contracts.

Point is Gene Upshaw and the players believe they should be recieving a bigger portion of the percentages recieved from revenue and profits. It's not about being "greedy" or "just a union doing what most unions do". If anything, it's the rich owners who do not want to give a small perecentage of their earnings to the people who put the money in their pockets.

Yeah well, the owners are the ones investing their money, aren't they? Gene likes to twist things around.....he said the owners offered less money which is a disturtion of the thruth...the % was smaller but of a bigger pot in which the players in the next 6 years would have made 1.5 BILLION more than in the current deal....tell the players to go get a real job and we'll see what they do....now I agree that the owners need to make a deal with themselfs as well and get it together......I know they're not perfect and I know they got money...but for anyone to tell the owner how much they have to pay is ludicrous, specially when it comes to the NFL as much money as the players make....sorry bro, don't mean to take this out on you but I don't feel sorry for people making millions of bucks to play in the NFL.

I thought he was making it sound like the league was going to present a proposal to the owners that they already know will be shot down, just to say they voted on it.

But come on 60% is that really fair to the owners? Upshaw is going overboard with it really because I think 57% is fine!

Why is wanting to make a profit out of your business greedy?

Some owners are finding it hard to run a worthy profit as it is now, how are they going to handle 60% going to the players? They can't.

All of the owners will make a profit at a happy median of around 58% but they will find it harder at 60%, the players already get paid copius amounts and some players know it, eg. Matt Birk and just want to get the deal done, because in the end the people who are going to be hurt in this are Upshaw and the players after 3 years when there is a strike or worse conditions for players.

Well, if you consider 60% a small amount when we're talking BILLIONS of dollars then I have to.....:sidelol:

See the official thread that is a sticky. It says an agreement is in place to be voted on by the owners.

At last, someone sees the real picture here.....I was hoping I wasn't alone in thinking that the players asking for more than half(60%)is a lot of money when you're talking billions.
