Bob Kuechenberg called Sunday the ''greatest day'' since the Dolphins culminated their 17-0 season. ''The same passion and juices that got us there were on the line [Sunday],'' he said. ``We are still uniquely perfect.''

You may recall that Kuech won a second Super Bowl with the Dolphins and some how, watching the Patriots lose was better than that win.

After all the excitement of rooting against the Patriots was, I sort of forget how embarrassing these bad sports are to the franchise. They don't even care about the Dolphins, they just care about themselves and that one season.

I am happier to see Monk in the HOF that Kuech...

what a shame.. Bob ROCKS and the Herald sucks..This thread title is inflammatory, has NOTHING to do with the article, it is your OPINION, nothing more. Your only purpose was to inflam the site. How sad you can't see that the guy who played with a broken back, played in the 72 SB with a broken arm.. and DOMINATED Alan Page as worthy. What a shame that Dolphin fans have nothing better to do than disparage a man they obviously know little about.

I did not come here to inflame the site. I am a devoted Miami Dolphins fan and big supporter of this site.
Kuech was a phenomenal player and before his anti-dolphin comments when he said they had no chance to beat the bears a few years ago.

honestly, i have not been this happy about a football game in years as I was of the super bowl, but saying its better than his second super bowl win is insane.

this constant bragging about 17-0 only makes us look bad as a franchise, and i know people on here have been very critical of them for that until very recently when we all got behind them in the face of this patriots team.

frankly, unless the dolphins do it again, i hope no team every goes undefeated

but their bad sportsmanship is not a positive thing to cast over our team

ALSO, my comments about him being an embarrassment stem not from his play on the field but his comments off the field which Jason Taylor said:

"It's another chapter in the grumpy Kuechenberg story," Taylor said. "It's Kuechenberg. He gets up every year and [complains] about something. If it ain't one thing, it's another. He needs a hug and a hobby. It's ridiculous."

and lastly, you are a great poster on this site, i am very sorry to have incurred your wrath, but seriously... i don't know how he can say a team losing is better than him winning the frigging super bowl!

If thats the way he feels who are you to try to tell him how to feel.
Kuech earned the right to say anything he desires about that team and record. What are you a sour grapes pats fan or somthing?

Kooch will NEVER be an embarassment to the Miami Dolphins. He is a guy who played his guts out for our Dolphins and deserves every Dolphin fans respect for it!! He bleeds aqua and orange like the rest of us diehards do.

I love some of the other quotes

Still, Buoniconti and Anderson agreed it is even more meaningful to have the record to themselves -- a sentiment Fox's Terry Bradshaw criticized during the pregame show when he said of the '72 Dolphins, ``You shouldn't be so selfish about it.''
That remark left several '72 alums mystified.
''For him to say we're greedy because we want to be the only ones, I don't understand it,'' Buoniconti said. ``Why are we greedy? Why are we selfish for wanting to have the record? You think Joe DiMaggio, if he were alive, would be rooting for someone to break his hitting streak? It's not normal.
``Would it be the worst thing in the world [to share a record]? No. Am I going to lose sleep over it? Absolutely not. But it's nice to have the record. The only thing that upsets me is how people diminish the importance of the record, how they think we just happened into it.''
Buoniconti also took issue with Fox's Jimmy Johnson saying the Steelers, 49ers, Cowboys and Bears were better teams than the '72 Dolphins. ''How does he know that?'' Buoniconti said. ``How does anybody know how we would have done? Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson -- that's sour grapes.''
Said Anderson: ``Bradshaw, we beat in the 1972 AFC Championship game in Pittsburgh, and he kept throwing us passes in 1973. He never did like us anyway. What's selfish about it? It's pride. How many people who have records want them to be broken? It's the dumbest thing in the world. We're not grumpy old men. We're happy old men.''
Buoniconti said that for about the past 15 years, he and Anderson have met for a toast after the final unbeaten team lost. They spoke by phone Sunday night, and Anderson said they ''will get together sometime this week and probably will have a drink.'' But contrary to perception, most of the team do not participate in the toast.
CHOKE ARTISTS
Though the '72 Dolphins have expressed respect for the Patriots, Jim Kiick said by phone Sunday night that New England ''went from being the best team in the history of football to the biggest choke artists. They were trying to prove a point against us that they were the best team. But they didn't win the big one. They might have been better off losing to somebody'' in the regular season.
And Jim Mandich, a tight end on that '72 Dolphins team, said on his WQAM talk show Monday that during a pregame montage before Sunday's broadcast, the Patriots came across as ``awfully smug, like they're entitled . . . like they're overconfident, and the football gods don't smile on teams like that.''
But Mandich said he feels ''empathy'' for the Patriots ``because they carry that with them for a lifetime. That one you wake up in a cold sweat 15 years from now. You were on the brink of immortality. . . . Eighteen meaningless wins that don't amount to jack spit. They will be known as the greatest team never to win the Super Bowl.''

This is embarassing, and not well thought out.

Just curious, he happened to have that season as a Dolphin. He can say anything he wants about what HE and HIS TEAMMATES did. If I were him I'd be dam proud too. Hell, I'm proud we still have the record and how the whole thing went down. The Pats deserved that, they really, really did.

If that makes me a bad sport too, then fine. I'll take it everyday of the week and twice on Sundays please.

Thank you Marty, I love when these young Dolphin fans come on here and judge Kuech that know nothing about him.

Why Shouldn't this be important to Kuech? Multiple teams have won back to back Superbowls, multiple teams have won 4 Superbowls, ONLY one team has ever been perfect.

It is not the 72' Dolphins who keep this in the media every year, it is there because of the greatness of the achievement, it is there because of what a rare thing it will be if any team ever does it again.

The Patriots got manhandled on Sunday, the 1972 Dolphins finished off the greatest season in history by dominating the NFC Champion, by shutting out their offense for 4 quarters, with the only points coming on a Yepremian bobble.

Don't be a hypocrite, if you were a 1972 Dolphin, it would be of major importance to you as well, I was a 10 year old watching it happen, and its of major importance to me.

those weren't anti Dolphin comments.. they were anti sissy team comments.. and apparently he was correct, because the team raised it's lazy head and actually stomped the bears into the ground.. Again, he was absolutly correct. Jason Taylor was the crybaby here.. even if he wasn't smart enough to get it, apparently the other 52 men were.

honestly, I have not been this happy about a football game in years as I was of the super bowl, but saying its better than his second super bowl win is insane.

really.. I cannot find that in this article.. this is what he really said;

no one is "bragging" the comments have ALL been solicited by reporters.. what would you have them say.. yea, we really aren't special..nobody else has done it but who cares???

this is nothing but a "flame" thread..

I think you're misinterpreting what he's saying. The Dolphins won two SuperBowls. Only one is historical or legendary though. As time has passed the guys naturally hold a little dearer the 72 SB due to how it differentiates them from anyone else. Sunday's Giants Victory secured that special accomplishment. The Giants/ Pats SB was simply an extension of the 72 SB. They were intertwined with the guys. They got to relive those days and their special accomplishment. Why would you deny the guy his moment in the sun. The older you get the more special some of the things you've done become

Bob made those comments prior to the Chicago game because the Dolphins sucked. Flat out sucked. Harrington was the QB, the defense was doing their best (which wasn't enough), and of course the line was horrid. That bye week, combined with the members of the '72 team stepping up and knocking the new schoolers allowed us to flatten the Bears, with Ronnie Brown absolutely tearing them a new one. That makes Bob good in my book - as well as anyone else to gets this team to remember that they're the Miami Dolphins, and in spite of the best efforts of Wanny, Saban and Cameron we've got a proud legacy to support and uphold.

Well here's maybe another way to look at it. Those guys aren't seeking out the media every year. The media is seeking them out. It's the media that starts talking about the '72 Dolphins every year when only one team remains without a loss. It's the media that goes looking for some sound bytes in order to create some controversy. After all that's what sells newspapers. Every year someone in the media wants to try and downplay just how difficult it was to go undefeated.
If you had accomplished something that no one else had ever accomplished
you wouldn't appreciate it if others tried to spit on your legacy.
You think for a minute about all the crap you read and hear every year. "They're grumpy old men." "The whole, entire team celebrates another team's loss every year by toasting champagne". "They played the easiest schedule ever." blah, blah, blah.......
Do you think that the players interviewed in that article all called Jackson, or do you think that Jackson called them? Do you think that the 72 team contacted an ad agency because they wanted to do a commercial, or do you think that they were asked about doing it?
