hudson houck...it was in the sporting news magazine...shelton said he was so impressed with houck that he would play for him even if it was for $1 million less...shelton believes houck can take his game to the next level...shelton is the type of blocker with whom houck tends to excel...great news for us...we haven't had a good left tackle since richmond webb...with 4 starters returning on the line and shelton being an upgrade over mcintosh, we can have a good ol with continuity...

Look what he done with the line last year. Our line was in at the top of the league with least sacks given up with QB's who loved holding the ball to long. NOt to mention both our back averaged over 4 yards a carry and would have both rushed for over 1,000 had we not been pass happy. I don't think we need anyrthing on the o-line except for depth because last years line was young and started living up to their potential. I see all these threads about line being a top priority and I have to disagree.

I think you are wrong here. I think much of last years success was the schemes used. Holding in a back, keeping tight ends in to block etc. I'll bet a significant number of those rushes attempted were interupted by someone in the backfeild, it was only our high quality backs that made it work. To improve our line...and he has, means more time to pass, and more guys in the pattern. Can you imagine the success our backs will have if they can get PAST the line of scrimage before they are hit? Saban's first press conference after the season made it clear we were going to improve our line... Just how effective is that cornerback going to be in the fourth quarter chasing CC after Ronnie has beat his brains out for the previous three quarters. And remember, these guys start out tough, but they were all arm tackling by the fourth quarter.....I can hardly wait.

Well they are young and didn't give up many sacks for a pass happy O. That was Houcks 1st year with them too and I look for big things from them. I didn't say we don't need to upgrade just that I don't think it's that high of a priority. I might be wrong though but Saban only signed one and sometimes that can change alot.

ok, I see where you are coming from. Now that we have already signed a left tackle, a tight end known for blocking and a fullback for the blocking, I suspect it is no longer the high priority it was either. If Hud can work magic with what he had, how good could they become with some better talent. Huds numbers throughout his career are almost unbelieveable, I can't ewait until it is fully our turn. We will be absolutly unstoppable if our o-line improves...and it already has.

Well I forgot about TE and didn't think of the fb to tell you the truth but now that you brought that to my attention I am even more enthusiastic about what could be. I thought we didn't run no where near enough last year and I hope these signings help change that. I want to litterally run all over the league next year.:dolphins:

I think cnc66 made a better post. I am happy now with what we have and think we should just get the best players available and plan for the future a little.

IMO the line was much improved at the end of last year. Just think back to before we lost ricky in a puff of smoke - the end of that year 25yrds/game wasnt surprising. I know ronnie had alot to do w/that last year but so did the line

He's one of the few that still posts alot from the old days before the VIP that makes sense on almost every posts. I would say it's his passion for football and the Phins and like some of us follows everything that goes on.
