La Canfora: Dolphins exploring Dion Jordan, Mike Wallace and Cameron Wake trade

Didn't we already have other threads about this yesterday, where our beat writers said this was totally untrue?

Gee I'm sure Bellichick can find a position for Jordan to play, what do yah think?? :)

Just another La Canfora pile thrown against a wall on a Friday around lunch. Gets headlines and him some name recognition because it's scandalous and everyone forgets it was totally made up and without basis by Monday. The Magic 8 Ball is a lot more accurate than LCF is at this point ... and that's truly sad. :( According to him we are coached by Fisher and QB'd by Peyton Manning and all kinds of other stuff. Oh yeah, at the same time he said this about Jordan he also said we were shopping Wake and Wallace. And yes, it has been specifically disproved in each case ... but hey, LCF just keeps making stuff up so I guess its working for him.

I wish we could trade Jordan a guy we should have never traded up for but I don't see it happening esp with cap ramifications plus how much actual value does he really have

I'm no expert but, I think a trade may be able to be done without a $10M cap hit. The above article says that the signing bonus is not actually paid on signing and pro-rated. So, maybe the contract can be re-done or, maybe the trading team can agree to take over the bonus. Not sure, have to do sme more research.

Trading scenarios with both Jordan and Wake make no sense whatsoever and if it were true, which is highly unlikely, would make Hickey and Philbin failures IMO.

The only thing here for me is Philly Eagles and their desire for Jordan for their first rounder.

That would give us huge ability to get two studs in 1st round and maybe get a 5th rounder (Eagles have 2 5ths).

To me, Lewan and Martin would be huge. FA could take care of other two OL positions and get another G in 4th/5th round for good measure.

RB and even WR could be in our picture since we seem to be looking there with Moncrief/Mason with more kid gloves.

Get this bull**** off this board. It was already posted yesterday and JLC is an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!

The new broom sweeps clean..

I would expect that if Hickey and Philbin decide to make any trades with current players or draft picks that they will do it after full evaluation of the teams need and then only trade to benefit the team overall.

Let's give them the benefit of doubt that they know what they are doing.

I don't know who or what to believe. You have league, team, and close to player sources basically saying nothing other than we were checking out trade value, might be open to trade, and no shock. I could see that on almost any player but, not being any big deal.

I think the rumor of Miami trading Dion Jordan started in mid January right after Jeff Ireland and the Dolphins parted ways. I don't know if Armando started the rumor but there were a couple of articles that used his tweets as a reference to such speculation.

Could the Eagles trade for Dolphins DE/OLB Dion Jordan?

Just some offseason speculation.

The Miami Dolphins are in the process of interviewing candidates for their open General Manager position. A vacancy arose when former GM Jeff Ireland was fired mutually agreed to split ways with the Dolphins organization early in January. One of the candidates the Dolphins interviewed recently was Eagles Vice President of Player Personnel Tom Gamble. It turns out that Gamble is staying in Philadelphia for at least one more year, which is good news for Eagles fans. Gamble's involvement in the Dolphins search did lead to some interesting information and speculation, however. Courtesy of Miami Herald columnist Armando Salguero:

I'm told 1 thing Tom Gamble would've recommended if he interviewed for Dolphins GM was switch back to 3-4. Thinks Dion Jordan 3-4 stud.

To piggyback on previous Dion Jordan/Gamble tweet, Eagles have No. 22 in 1st rd. Wouldn't surprise me if they try to trade that for Jordan.

Jordan played for Chip Kelly and Gamble loves him. Jordan in Miami was Jeff Ireland's pick not new GM's.

and Salary Cap and Financial Considerations in Trading Dion Jordan
http://overthecap.com/salary-cap-financial-considerations-trading-dion-jordan/
A few days ago Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald wondered if the Miami Dolphins might try to trade DE/OLB Dion Jordan. Former GM Jeff Ireland traded moved up nine spots to make the selection by trading the 12th and 42nd overall choices for Jordan. Now that Ireland is gone there could be a chance that his pick goes with him. So let’s look at the salary cap consequences and financial considerations for both sides.
The Dolphins, if seriously considering this option, would need to make the trade sometime before the 5th day of training camp. If Jordan is on the roster as of that day the team would have to pay him $845,104. Most likely he would be traded prior to this years draft, but here are the three trade scenarios and cap charges, and savings involved:
and now former Eagles Director of Pro Personnel and ESPN analyst is saying this was a real possibility weeks ago.

There are different kinds of bonuses. Some are paid upfront, some are delayed. Jordan has about 4 million in future bonuses plus 800k due this year that I don't know if they have been paid or not. All of that would be inherited by the new team, along with base salaries.

But the brunt of Jordan's salary is in prorated bonus money and, yes, it would count 10 million against the cap this year.

Actually when you consider the numbers and the situation I think Wake is the most likely to get traded.

All the same -- even if LaCanfora's reporting is accurate (never a guarantee  ) -- I don't think any of this has gotten much beyond talk. At this time of year all kinds of wild deals are floated and nearly come to fruition but ultimately don't.

It still wouldn't make any sense at all to me. Cap dollar vs production Wake is one of the best players in the league. How could we possibly justify moving him? We wouldn't free up any cap space, we wouldn't get equivalent talent in return. It's lose-lose for us.

Of course it's a matter of price. A top 15 pick would work for Wake, but no team is going to pay that much for a veteran when the name of the game is cheap draft picks. I mean, last time that happened in the NFL I think Al Davis pulled the trigger on Seymour.

Straight bull****. Just more incredibly irresponsible sports "reporting." The problem is several months down the road people here will forget the useless source and start quoting this as some kind of fact that they were made available.

The justification would be that he's aging. He's 32 now and despite what people might think, he does not have any less tread on his tires than anyone else. He's getting older, and getting older has consequences. Look at the injury he had this year, how it took him a while to recover. That's only going to happen more frequently, not less. I think it's definitely worth exploring what you can get for him, especially since -- at least in my opinion -- this is a team going absolutely nowhere in the short term.
