La Canfora: If Bowles leaves, Kevin Coyle a candidate for DC

To be very honest.. I truly wish LaCant(report)forya would stop talking

Maybe they should push a coach on to Philbin...just kidding. Big step for Coyle.

There's no denying that Coyles has been a better DB coach than Bowles, at the very least.

I am hoping they fill the DC spot with an experienced person. I just wont feel comfortable with an offensive minded rookie coach AND a rookie DC. Not saying a setup like that cant work, but if they could get a Mangini to work the D it would go a long way towards helping Philbin concentrate on the teams offensive unit.

Coyle was a great coach in college. Odd though he has been in the same position for 9 years and really hasn't moved up the ladder in that time frame

I will keep saying this and people will get pissed off, but I want a former HC in one of the coordinator posts.

I think when Philbin and Ireland head to the Senior Bowl there will be a chance to start filling out the coaching staff as Philbin starts to network with other coaches. It's a good thing they got a coach in place before the Senior Bowl, not just for the scouting but for the purpose of filling out the staff.

I sure hope he isn't "pressured" to use Bowles as DC. I was never pleased with the performance of our secondary under his watch and sure as hell don't want him running the entire Defense!

somebody posted something on here that said Philbin wouldn't be going to the Sr. Bowl, that he'd be getting settled in and doing evaluations. Not sure if it's true or not.

Two beat writers who cover the Cincinnati Bengals have told me that when the Eagles asked last year to interview Kevin Coyle they were denied and they expect when the Dolphins come calling to interview Coyle they will be denied as well.

10. Philbin will not be going to the Senior Bowl. Former coach Tony Sparano used to scout the practices alongside Jeff Ireland, but Philbin will use the next few days to check out South Florida and move his family down to the area. He has five children, three of whom still live at home.
