La Canfora: No bombshells found in investigation, could be trouble for Martin

You've been watching too many movies, my friend. They are paid to make their publishers money. End of story. It's harsh and it's cynical, but it is how things really are. As has been stated before in this thread, it's up to the public to use their God-given common sense to sort out what the real truth might be. To every thing and every one who's a part of revealing the actual truth, it's entertainment until it reaches court. Until a scandal like this actually makes it to a court somewhere, they will ride it for every $ it's worth.

Do you remember the Tiger Woods scandal? How much of that turned out to be true and how much was speculation, or out and out lies to fan the flames of the story? Especially, in the first few weeks after the story broke.

You know you can say the same for their liberal network counterpoints, but Fox actually went to court to defend their right to lie and distort the news. So any expectation that a so-called mainstream news or sports network (possibly other than the BBC) isn't agenda-driven either parsing or misrepresenting the news to pander to their viewers is blatantly naive. What gets me particularly about BSPN is all the shaky soapbox hypocrisy by their own former team cancers, reporting liars and team-destructing/quitting druggies, not to mention the dysfunction of a network that has quietly fired the likes of Steve Phillips, Sean Salisbury, Harold Reynolds, Eric Kasilius and many more for sexual harassment of their underlings. So they should just STFU about "team dysfunction"!!

Subject: FOX can Legally Lie

FOX News has legally argued in court that they have the right to LIE and
OBFUSCATE and won!

NEW WORLD COMMUNICATIONS OF
TAMPA, INC., versus JANE AKRE Case No. 2D01-529.

This is interesting and SCAREY!

Excerpt below:

"In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an
assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or
falsifying the news in the United States.

"Fox" argued that, under the First Amendment, broadcasters have the right
to lie or deliberately distort news reports on public airwaves. Fox
attorneys did not dispute Akre's claim that they pressured her to
broadcast a false story, they simply maintained that it was their right to
do so."

The onus is on John Q. Public to evaluate information reasonably and rationally.

Winston Churchill: "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."

So ... if this report is true, it's exactly what most of us thought from the get-go. Jon "Rat Fink" Martin is nothing more than a quitter wuss who was afraid to tell mommy and daddy the truth, and instead threw his best friend, his teammates and his organization under the bus for his own selfish reasons.

We have a winner.

Not to sway away from this subject, but wheres the dude that does the official game day thread?

You beat me to it. News reporting DOES NOT have to be truthful or accurate. It has become so sensationalized it isn't funny. So when a story like this comes up, they run with it without verifying accuracy of any claims made. Its all about ratings so that they can charge more for advertising dollars.

The sad thing is, if this report is true(knowing La Canfora it might not be) is that all the media, late night talk shows and people in general ripped the Dolphins for something that may have never really happened. The damage of the reputation is already done. Thanks Martin.

This is what angers me the most. ESPN (especially) is notorious for doing this

It's the responsibility of the public, however, to evaluate information reasonably and rationally. We aren't "sheep" who have to take the media's spin and run with it.

You're exactly right, only problem, the masses can not think for themselves and take what the media says on the idiot box as gospel. How do you think the current administration got elected, TWICE! No one took the time to think for themselves. Now they are showing their true colors, and everybody's shocked? There are no more "true" journalists, they all have an agenda. Even in sports.

This is an age old question. Who sets the agenda? The media or the masses? I think they both coexists. The media feeds what they think will sell and base on numbers, YOUR clicks, listening(radio), watching(TV), that's what they report on or should I say, make a story about. Like an earlier poster said, different media outlets pander to their audiences. You can read a story but most smart people can decipher what agenda the media outlet is trying to set. The smart ones never believe totally what the media reports because there are, most of the time, variables that will not be reported. They won't be reported based on the agenda that outlet is trying to set.

The masses set the agenda, but they're doing it on auto-pilot, and the media knows it. See here, for example:

I would love to see everyone come out of this clean except Martin gets shown as the one at fault. Forfeits all the money that he has been collecting while out and has to deal with a breach of contract and slander/defamation lawsuit.

If this ends with nothing found, you will see the Dolphins taking Martin to court for their money back.
