LAA is interested in trading for Giambi to help their lineup. The MORE of the contract the Yanks eat, the MORE the Yanks get in return. Obviously the less the Yanks eat of the contract, the less they would get back. Giambi has a no-trade clause. BUT, LAA Plays only 20 min from where Giambi grew up. So, he would probably waive it to go back home.

LA is offering some mix-match combination of......Chone Figgins, Jose Molina, and young pitchers.

LAA would be stupid to give up Chone Figgin for that dope. It more NY rumor then anything.

I'm not for it, the Yankees line-up need Giambi to drive in runs and hit homers. With Abreu basically not hitting homers, Matsui's homers seeming to be on the decline, and no-one but A-Rod seeming capable to put the ball over the fence on a consistant basis, I think the Yankees need to keep Giambi. While I am intrigued by the deal, I must say I wouldn't do it at this point in time. Plus I like Giambi, I think he's a stand up guy and hasn't been as bad in NY as everyone has made him out to be. Maybe if the Angels threw in one of those stud pitchers they have they could persuade me but for Molina and Figgins.....Yeah right, the Yankees need Giambi more then they need those two!

Chone Figgin is a valuable commodity. He can play any position infield or outfield and he plays them good. He give guys days off and as soon as some is injured he goes in and play their position.

The Angels just love the roid heads, first Gary Matthews Jr. and now Giambi..

According to the USA Today..

That stuff didn't help me hit home runs. I don't care what people say, nothing is going to give you that gift of hitting a baseball.

Sure, Jason.. just like I'm sure "that stuff" isn't the reason you're the highest paid player in the league this year.

We are 3-9 vs Lefties this year. We have too many leftie bats in the everyday lineup plus we are carrying 3 first basemen esentialy. Removing one lefty bat from the line-up would help.

Plus Giambi clearly isn't liked by the front office anymore. We would lose that distraction and the majority of his contract off the books going into next season.

I am not for giving him away, but if you give me Figgins and some young pitching I wouldn't mind sending him to LAA.

I doubt he gets traded to anyone, because the price is too much. I think there is a better chance they void his contract than trade him

I'd have no problem moving Figgins. Depending on who the pitcher is I'd jump all over this but for a guy who they clearly arent happy with are talking about voiding his contract if they want Santana or Saunders I'd say no thanks.

I'm guessing Weaver,Santana, and Saunders are off limits, but you've got some other studs in the minors. If I'm the Yanks, I'm trying to get a top notch prospect if I can. The only guy I see as untouchable in the farm system is Brandon Wood.

That actually makes some sense, unlike most sports rumors from the NY Post.

The Yankees would pretty much have to take about 50 cents on the dollar for Giambi, given his contract, his inability to play a position and his inability to keep his mouth shut. Figgins is a valuable utilityman, who's decent at getting on base, can steal bases and play a bunch of positions. That's actually a pretty dead-on description of what the Yankees need (well, that and some healthy pitchers). Building a deal around him, and throwing in a little sweetener might make sense. I doubt it would be an A-level pitching prospect, and certainly not one of the established Angel pitchers like Escobar, Santana, etc.

For the Angels, they desperately need a big bat to take some pressure off Guerrero. To refuse to give up Figgins, who isn't even a regular for them, is pretty shortsighted.

I dont think the Angels would refuse to give up Figgins, I think they'd refuse to give up a top pitcher for Giambi. It sounds like the Angels are now willing to move a pitcher (Mosely, Saunders, Santana) but I think the player would have to be more than an expensive DH with some issues. I'm interested to see if the Glaus rumors go anywhere.

They can have Oliver and Figgins. With the emergence of Reggie Willits and another utility OF in Tommy Murphy that makes Chone an easier pill to swallow for me. I am a die hard Angels fan/season ticket holder and do agree we should have signed another basher in the offseason. I would even send Garret Anderson somewhere since I love the OF we have right now. Willits, Matthews and Murphy have been great out there. Even Vlad has played better this year. Package Anderson, Figgins and a minor league prospect and pick up a big bat.

According to Michael Kay (so that it for what it's worth) during last night's Yankee game, Giambi has come out and said he's got a blanket no trade clause so it's pointless to talk about it.

As a Red Sox fan I hope this deal goes down, it would weaken a Yankee line-up that is always just one game away from breaking out and being scary good again.

EDIT: Bill Stoneman, Angels' GM, came out and said the rumor is false. And if it was true then after Giambi's failed drug test I can't imagine the Angels taken Giambi now, especially with all the crap they dealt with with Gary Mathews, Jr.
