The Dolphins will host free agent LB Philip Wheeler for a visit on Saturday.

It's Wheeler's first known visit of free agency. A third-round pick in the 2008 draft, Wheeler is an effective strong-side linebacker and has flown under the radar a bit this spring. He could push hard for a starting job in Miami.

Wheeler is the 12th best 4-3 OLB rated by Pro Football Focus. Guy is real good against the run and would likely start at OLB if Miami plays in a 4-3 with Dansby at ILB & Burnett oppossite to Wheeler. That is if he sign and is not here to visit South Beach, SMH.

This is how they described him before the draft:

Position: ILB
Class:Sr
School: Georgia Tech
Conference: ACC
Ht., Wt.: 6-2, 248
40 Time:4.83

BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter who played both strong side and middle linebacker. All-Conference selection the past two years totaling 88/8.5/5.5 as a senior after 89/14.5/9 during his junior campaign.
POSITIVES: Tough, strong run-defending linebacker who plays bigger than his size. Displays a good head for the ball, quickly diagnoses the action, and likes to mix it up. Fights through blocks to get to the action, takes good angles to the play, and effectively uses his hands to protect himself. Wraps up ball-carriers and brings them down on initial contact.
NEGATIVES: Struggles in coverage and has difficulty staying downfield with tight ends. Lacks quickness, the ability to immediately change direction, lateral speed, and the ability to make plays outside the box. Not known as a hard-working player.
ANALYSIS: Wheeler is a physical linebacker who.s been productive for three years running in college and he offers starting potential on the inside of a 3-4 alignment. Likely a two-down defender at the start of his career, Wheeler has the skills to develop a complete game.
PROJECTION: Late Third Round

Oh boy, hope he's working harder now.............

Here is thread about him on a Colts forum from earlier this month:

http://forums.colts.com/index.php?/topic/5720-bringing-back-wheeler/

The summary of the thread is that they want him to re-sign, he has improved every year and that he hasn't gotten a chance to thrive because the Colts played in a 4-3 defense. They think he will flourish in a 3-4 defense.

I like Mel Mitchell from last year. I wanted to see him in a depth role. Got that big pick vs. the Jets in the last game of the year.

I thought we needed a pass rusher. MISI is a good run stopper too. Not sure what is happening. Player is not being resigned by a 2-14 colts team.

Better than Misi, but just a run stuffer.

How is he better than Misi? Some of you believe that any player that wore another uniform is automatically better than existing players on the roster.
Misi is good at setting the edge and can defend the pass. The only thing Misi doesn't have is an explosive 1st step and as a result is not a good edge rusher.
