LaCanfora reveals finalists for Dolphins GM job

What could have been. :bobdole:

10 yrs. ago this month, #Dolphins did national GM search. Interviewed Ted Thompson, Jerry Reese, others. Instead promoted Rick Spielman.

Thompson eventually put together SB winner in GB. Reese put together 2 SB winners with #NYG. Spielman was gone from Miami 2 yrs later.

There's more than this opinion of him.

During his tenure as the Broncos’ general manager, Broncos won the AFC West Division for the last two years (2011-2012), where 55/61 players (90%) were acquired through the draft, free agency or re-signed during his tenure as GM. Denver became only the third team since the 1970 NFL merger to win its division and a playoff game with a new head coach following four wins the previous season.

The Broncos executed high-producing NFL Draft classes over the last three years, which finished #1 in the NFL in playtime and #2 in games started during 2010-12. There were nine primary starters from those draft classes, including three Pro Bowl players: LB Von Miller, WR Demaryius Thomas and OG Zane Beadles. There were also eight other Pro Bowl players who were acquired, signed or extended during his tenure: QB Peyton Manning (FA, 2012), SS Brian Dawkins (UFA, 2009-11), WR Brandon Lloyd (FA, 2009-11), RB Willis McGahee (FA, 2011), CB Champ Bailey (re-signed, 2011), DE Elvis Dumervil (re-signed, 2010), WR Brandon Marshall (re-signed, 2010), and OT Ryan Clady (1st round, 2008).

What a miserable offseason.

If Gaine is the guy, this would've been the biggest let down since... since... week 17!

We could've really turned the page on this franchise. Bring Gaine is simply more of the same.

I have absolutely no faith in the status quo.

Not saying he's right or wrong here but he seems to be making **** up as he goes along as on this story alone hes been dead wrong at least twice.

Xanders has been ruled out as a finalist.

I sincerely hope this is NOT true. He is by far the best candidate.

I am very afraid that off-the-field issues are playing a much bigger role in this hire than they should. The NFL is breathing down the Dolphins' necks and it is CRIMINAL.

As much as I love this team, I may be OUT of here if it is farmer or gaine. Can't tolerate either. They will be sellout hires and NOT a choice of the best possible talent.

Pro Scouting Departments, scout Pro Players in a pro setting. College scouts try to project what College Players will do in a pro setting. Night and Day difference. Pro Scouting is much easier. College scouting is so crucial. Pro Scouting is overrated. Look at the Packers since Ted Thompson took over. The only free agents they have brought in are Charles Woodson and Jeff Saturday. Pro scouting is not nearly important as college scouting. You build your team through the draft, not free agency. There are things that college scouts know that pro scouts will miss, like Alabama players have already hit there ceiling once they get to the NFL and have no real upside.

If anybody wants to go back in history and is looking for one single moment in the last decade where we missed the turn it was in 2004. We were looking for a GM and Ron Wolf advised Wayne Huizenga to get a young and promising guy he worked with in Green Bay: Ted Thompson

Instead Huizenga promoted from within and we got Spielman as a GM. Ted Thompson build the Packers.
