Lack of a running game...troubling!

Men, Simma down. We aren't going to burn up Reggie or Miller in preseason. Figuring out the zone blocking is one thing, the real reason is we are trying to move from the bottom 10 in passing to top tier. I agree with phinsN703, rinse and repeat.

we are working on the QB and WR's reading the defense and getting that down first with the hurry up. thats philbin ball. i mean seriously....boo birds been dried up for so long now gotta work their majic now. lol

During the Olympics I don't pay much attention to anything else but I did catch a few brief glimpses of the Dolphin telecast, enough to force an opinion that backs up my lingering concerns:

50 passes courtesy of mediocre quarterbacks will be a joy to defend. If that trend continues it will be a soft vulnerable team. Rushes may be down in the NFL but not the percentage of games won by the team with highest rushes, upwards of 82%.

Teams that abuse short passes with less than dominant quarterbacks invariably butcher short yardage and goal line situations. They don't seem to comprehend that you've earned no respect down the field or via the running game so the cutesy underneath garbage will be dismantled with a laugh in key spots. The first plays I watched this season were Tannehill near the goal line late in the first half. He threw short of the goal line twice, once over the middle and once to the left sideline. Both plays were destroyed. Granted, I have no idea if that was representative of the game but you've got to redesign those patterns with an understanding of personnel limitations. With an Aaron Rodgers the play will break quicker and cleaner and more precise than expected. You might get away with throwing a yard shy of intention and rambling into the end zone. With lesser quarterbacks the opposite will be true so the design needs to be a yard further downfield than standard.

Otherwise, I saw plenty of marginal athletes. That's the overwhelming variable. No need to dissect every nuance of a team loaded with .240 hitters or 12 handicappers. I caught the Jeff Ireland interview in the booth and it's not hard to pinpoint how we got here. One standard comment after another. Not a fleck of special insight. Ireland reminds me of these opening heat types I've been watching from London the past two weeks, the guys who are comfortable lingering way back in the pack of a race, confident they can spot superior athletes 10 meters and chase them down with no problem. "Jeff Ireland failed to advance..."

The running game is all about timing and is usually the last thing to come together. Patience

This stat is stupid and not indicative of anything. Of course the team has the most rushing attempts is going to be the winner of most games. Teams with leads do nothing but run in the 4th quarter. Assuming their defense doesn't collapse they win by running the clock out.

You guys do realize this is the first preseason game right? You do realize there is no game plans and you're seeing about 15% if that of our offense. I still can't for the life of me figure out why people make so many assumptions offa preseason game and the first one at that. I guess the patriots, jets, and bills are all doomed too considering their first game. This is irrelevant but I'm pretty sure the colts won the super bowl the same year they went 0-4 in the preseason. Everyone please calm down and dont take preseason seriously. It counts for absolutely nothing. Idk about anyone else but I'm not making assumptions or giving an opinion on who sucks until the clock hits 00:00 in the 4th of the Houston game.

Agreed, but it would be nice to see our starters look sharp in a preseason game once in awhile. Other teams are occasionally able to line up with no game planning and look like they have a clue. Wish Miami could do it.
