Laconfara: Starks close to returning to fins

Adam Beasley speculates that Starks and Mitchell will be considered the "starters" but that it will likely be a three man rotation that includes Odrick.

I would like to see all three on the line vs. "run first teams". I think the run defense will be okay with better LB play. Starks is a stud in all phases.

I'd rather draft someone, start Odrick and Mitchell, than pay Starks

Use that money on a corner and the right side of the OL

Resigning Starks for what is likely the rest of his career also gives Miami insurance if they lose Odrick to FA next year.

Resigning Starks at this discounted contract provides multiple benefits.

1) Miami would have to draft DT in the first round to replace Starks and the rookie would need a year or two to get up to Stark's speed if he pans out. Now, Miami can draft Zach Martin to be a Pro Bowl caliber LG.

2) Resigning Starks for a multi-year contract gives Miami insurance for losing Odrick in FA next year.

3) Starks can ball!

Our defensive line is impressive, should be better than last season.

Wake
Vernon
Jordan
Starks
Odrick
Mitchell
Shelby
Francis
Aaitui

Odrick is the best DT of the three, he's going to break out this year and cost us a fortune next year. He shouldn't be coming off the bench for Starks and Mitchell

I don't like this move. I would've prefered to draft a 3rd DT, go get a stud corner and one player on the right side of that OL. If anything, give this money to extend Odrick before he cost us our whole cap next year

Yeah, that's be be expected. Mitchell is an early down DT just like Soliai was. Odrick isn't run stuffing DT so it makes since. If can get Jordan rotating in more with Vernon we're six deep in a rotation on the DLine.

I was a bit iffy on Hickey's decision to throw all that money at Albert when Monroe, who is a better player & younger, could've been had for less but he's made the best moves possible other than that. Resigned our two biggest UFAs in Grimes & Starks. Added FS Delmas, DT Mitchell, & LT Albert. Give me G Shelley Smith & RT Breno Giacomini & call free agency a wrap.

So we have a GM named Hickey and our DT's might be Earl and Randy.

So who is Crabman?

Does that mean that Cogs was Karma?

Soliai isn't much better at taking double-teams. He tends to "turn his back" against doubles in order to maintain position. Starks took a lot of doubles himself. I am much happier keeping Starks than Soliai. But, I have never been impressed by Soliai. He had a good 5-game run in his contract year and everyone thought he had "arrived". After that, he pretty much went back to just being another guy...

totally disagree...and making odrick come off the bench if that's the plan...dumb...and only gonna piss him off in what i think is a contract year...can't say i'm too happy with how things have gone so far in free agency...

the problem i see here is this teams best and highest paid players are all getting old...grimes, starks, albert who will be 30 in season this year wake...all on the wrong side of 30...they better get some players in the draft or this free agency stuff is gonna catch up with us and hit like a ton of freaking bricks

Overall I thought Miami was one of the youngest teams in the league. Looking at the roster before FA began, they only had 3 players 30 or over. Grimes, who is 30, Wake, who is 32, and John Denney, who is 35. Throw in Starks and Albert and they only have 5 players over 30.

I'd say that's how rosters need to be built.

I don't disagree regarding Odrick. He is someone I am still not sold on at all..
