you dont build rosters where the majority of your big money is tied up in 30 plus...you draft your difference makers and you keep them in their prime...that's what you are suppose to do...we just suck or have sucked at drafting...

you keep having all your money tied up in 30 plus or free agent additions and it will catch up with you...eventually...we are no different
 
Good signing since it looks like the money and years are right. I would rather pay Starks 12 million over 2 years then Big Paul 30+ over 5

I like the way the DL is shaping up. Loads of variety and flexibility.

DT Starks Mitchell Odrick & Francis (?)
DE Wake, Jordan, Vernon, & Shelby

I am not a fan of the 3-4 but imagine this front 7.

DL... Starks, Mitchell, & Odrick (Starks or Mitchell at NT).

Wake & Jordan @ OLB. Ellerbe & Misi would be the ILB's.

I like Soliai...good player. However, I thought Soliai had a better chance of returning simply because Starks would have more interest elsewhere because he was the better player.

I like Big Paul for the obvious reason... same reason I like Shelby, Misi, & Brenner.

That said, Starks is more versatile & hence the better value/player.

I did not mean a full time 3-4.... Miami plays a 4-3 w/ occasional 3-4 looks.

With the aforementioned front, they could even drop into a 5-2 like the Texans under Wade P did.

the ones that teams retain on their 2nd contract that are difference makers...you know like the green bay packer model or some of the other teams that draft well...their difference makers never reach free agency cause they lock em up early and sometimes being so proactive they get em at team friendly rates...

2nd contract is usually where the money lies...ideally you are locking these guys up in that 26-28 year old window...not the 30 to 30 plus one where you have to worry more about fall off...by doing so in that 26-28 window u can feel more confident about getting the guaranteed money off the table and as a result less cap implications...

it's not a good model to have big money locked up in 30 plus year old football players on like 1st or 2nd years of their deals...cause you can't get out then without taking big hits...especially with how we seem to be structuring these contracts with low year one hits and high bloated numbers in the year two and three windows...allows you to sign more now sure but also allows for more down the road risk potential...how i see it at least

that said if i see the terms on some of these contracts i will probably come around...terms and the years

Most of Dawns contracts balloon in year 2 with a lower average after that and almost all have the team being able to move on after the 2nd years (3rd at the latest) with minimum cap hit...I know many dislike her potential influence, but she's damn good with contracts that make the players happy and protect the team long term.

As far as resigning players....they need to draft guys worth resigning...
