Perennial All-Pro
I have a few points to make, so please bear with me. I'll gladly accept any opposing opinions, but please try to make sense and refrain from "u r stoopid lolz" and things of that manner.
1. We're going to lose some games. If you expected us to win most of our games, you're in for a surprise. There are games like Buffalo and the Jets games where we killed ourselves with penalties and poor play, but there will be times when we just play a better team, simple and plain. I think the Chiefs are a better team than us, or at least match us very well against us. We couldn't stop them on the ground and we couldn't stop the long pass plays, so we basically let one of the strongest O's run wild. Meanwhile, our offense got off to a slow start and had problems moving the chains and crossing the goal line.
2. Nick Saban is not an idiot. He is not another Spurrier, and he certainly didn't have the "brook trout look" in yesterday's press conference. Just because he's a good coach doesn't mean he's going to come in and go 16-0. He inherited a 4-12 team with a severe lack of depth and a lot of worthless players. If our past regime had been any good, he wouldn't have been hired. There would have been no need for him. Instead, he's starting over and adapting to the pro's.
3. Gus vs. Sage vs. Lemon. Stop it, please. Like I said, Saban is no idiot, he knows who he has a good shot with, and that happens to be Gus. Sage Rosenfels has had two huge career first plays from scrimmage, both to Chambers, both for touchdowns. I don't think a career back-up is our answer at QB. That includes Gus as well, we have two career back-ups right now, but at least one of them knows the system well. If Sage starts, I would expect him to struggle and lose the starting job. Some of you guys want Lemon to start, which is ridiculous because he hasn't been on the team a whole week, there's no way he knows the system.
4. Our defense doesn't suck, but we do have a problem with depth in the secondary. How bad? The second they put a third receiver in the game, we all know he'll catch the ball. Travis Daniels is a rookie and Reggie Howard is just awful, if our safeties are a second late then we can virtually allow a big play on just about every pass.
5. Ronnie Brown is doing great. I think we should run the ball more, because he's shown he can make plays. I don't understand why we don't run the ball, that's my biggest knock on the coaching staff.
6. We had like.... what was it, six penalties? That's the first time we're under 10. Not ideal, but much better. We stayed in the game until the third quarter, partly because of our discipline. Maybe Vernon Carey is the solution?
