The Los Angeles Lakers waived forward Brian Grant on Wednesday, taking advantage of a one-time provision to the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement that allows teams to save nearly $30 million in luxury tax penalties....

The Lakers will have to pay nearly all of Grant's remaining contract, even if the 33-year-old player signs with another team as a free agent. The Lakers will gain no additional salary cap flexibility until after the 2006-07 season, when Grant's contract expires.

Is he worth a shot on the Heat, or are the knees shot instead?

He'd be a great pick up if Zo decides to retire...actually, the Sun-Sentinel said that one option would be to sign him (for the 1.1 mil minimum) and trade Michael Doleac and his 2.6 mil salary. I really like Grant, bum knees and all. The only thing I didn't like about him was his humongous salary. Don't have to worry about that anymore. :)

I agree 100% with you, I love Grant for his grit and determination. At 35 though, I wonder if the spirit is willing but the body fails him. I guess the only way to find out is to sign him; even working him out wouldn't reveal any durability issues, and a physical would only confirm what the team already knows.

I like the Doleac trade scenario, but I'd like Zo to come back for at least this season; he can still be an intimidating difference-maker on D, and I'd like to have him for the title run.
