Lamar Miller makes complete sense given where he was drafted.

I think Daniel Thomas is the guy that is going to be on the outside looking in. Figure that Thomas is best set for a power run game, of which, we are no longer incorporating with a zone blocking scheme. Reggie Bush fits a zone blocking scheme perfectly and with Miller's cutback ability he is a great fit for our new scheme. I like the pick. I think many will be pleasantly surprised how effective our offense under the new scheme with our current lineup and the guys we have drafted this year. Most are shaking their heads at the loss of Marshall but the west coast offense requires precision route running, something Marshall was horrific at IMO especially when he was "crying" on the field. I am confident in our wr corp in the short run (jennings aside look at what green bay was able to accomplish with guys that weren't initially household names) but we are going to go only as far as the timing and frequency of mistakes by Moore/Gerrard assuming Tannehill isn't ruined by being thrown to the wolves on day 1.

Miller's recovering from an injury and he is kind of dumb as rocks, but the kid is 1st round talent. Not sure why he fell to the 4th round... that was a giant mistake by other teams who needed a RB.

I'd take this a million times over some average scrub WR that would amount to nothing more than bench depth.

I like what Ireland and Philbin are doing. Basically you have to think that all indications are showing we have set the ship on course (west coast offense) and we are sticking to that course. We needed a qb, we got one. We needed a guy to anchor the right side of the line that can move and we got him. We needed a truly athletic pass catching TE and guess what? We took one. We needed a pure pass rushing DE and we took a guy that has shown he can do that albeit inconsistently. We needed a rb that could complement Bush who never was able to stay healthy prior to last year and with no guarantees and we stole one that fits a zone blocking scheme. What is there not to like?!

I have to agree. Looks like we are taking the best players available rather than just need. Many of our drafted players rated 1st and 2nd round grades. We'll how this all plays out but so far I'm quite happy.

This was a NEED. Bush has never historically been healthy. Thomas is a pure power runner, something that doesn't flourish in a zone blocking scheme that requires timing and cutbacks to gain yardage. The pick makes absolute sense and was a steal where he was picked.

I see your point but I don't agree. The Packers had a couple of RBs that were more of the power run game type. Ryan Grant is one example. Thomas catches the ball well out of the backfield. I don't think that picking up Miller is necessarily related to Thomas. My personal opinion is that it has more to do with planning for the eventual departure of Reggie Bush in a year or two if all goes well with Miller's progress....

You need cheap yards. The NFL is increasingly about something for next to nothing. That's why this pick makes sense, although I thought T.Y. Hilton was the ideal cheap-yards pick in this draft and we found a way to avoid him.

Lamar Miller and Travis Benjamin were picked nearby. Benjamin went earlier than anticipated, to Cleveland. Both can throw the flash touchdown on the board, like the Ohio State game in September 2010, when the Canes were being shoved around but Miller and Benjamin supplied deep sudden kick returns to twice place Miami into an undeserved lead. Similarly, last season the Canes were on the verge of being routed by Virginia Tech but once the Hokies made a couple of mistakes to allow Miami to hang around, the Canes eventually took a late lead when Miller burst into the end zone from about 30 yards.

The comparisons to Richardson are hilarious but a guy like Philbin wasn't going to sit around and pretend Davone Bess was only a year away from 80 yard jaunts.

Fair enough but we obviously all would like miller to be the next young Clinton Portis or Terrell Davis, both guys that flourished in zone blocking schemes, however that remains to be seen. From what I saw last year I can't see Thomas having the patience to wait for the holes and cutback lanes to open. He appeared to hit the hole and sometimes before it even opened. I think this is just a player that was potentially very good talent who fits a zone blocking scheme and given he was still on the board it just made too much sense. I can't imagine Miami letting Bush walk if he is able to repeat his success from last year.

I think we are used to Miami just pulling guys in for all kinds of reasons and instead of drafting guys that fit a scheme we just took whomever. It appears at least thus far that Miami has a plan in place and we are sticking to it. If that means Jake Long is unable to make the transition to a zone blocking scheme and he has to be unloaded, so be it. I just am happy we have some kind of direction right now. The picks thus far seem to back that assumption up.
